Problem with Kanger subox coil causing leaking/spitting. Help?
Hey, ok so Im fairly new to vapeing. I got a cheap kangertech kbox mini with a subox tank and the coil it came with was a .5 occ. It has been leaking since the first hit. And it also started spitting...up into my mouth, ugh nastiness every single hit in the back of my throat.
I watched some youtube vids and ppl said it was either the 0 ring or the cotton. It was not the o rings. they are all perfect. the cotton however, looks ragged... little holes and what not in the side holes of the atomizer.
What I did was use very cheap dollar store cotton ball.. used very little cotton and plugged up the holes the way I saw in a youtube video.
HOWEVER, this is where the problem occurs further.... The hits were tight and no spitting occured at all...BUT i was getting VERY harsh throat hits...it tasted like a hit from a dry coil every time if I hit too hard..and some times it wudnt smoke at all.. I packed the cotton loosely like the video said, and fluffed it out...
I was wondering if anyone knows a solution (other than new coils). Because Im right back to a leaky, spitting tank after I took it out.

Thanks

Hi Truz - welcome to the forum. I would replace the coil and see what happens - best of luck.

Indeed eddie, new coil needed. Sounds like it could be an rba coil but I'd still go with a factory one in this case.

Hi gently - I am pretty sure it is a factory coil - the way he describes it. Trying to ''fix'' factory coils is never very successful.

That'd mean there's a youtube video showing a factory coil 'fix' of just stuffing cotton in the juice holes ConfusedScratch_one-s_head *shudders in disgust*

RE: Problem with Kanger subox coil causing leaking/spitting. Help?
Welcome to TVF Truz. My princess used that set-up and had similar initial issues until I mastered the wicking.

I wouldn't use the cheap cotton as the fibers do make a huge difference in liquid absorption. The reason for the dry hits could be that you over-packed the juice ports with cotton and instead of the cotton drawing a smooth steady flow, it choked the flow. Very fine balance between enough cotton to prevent leaking and too much cotton to keep it from getting to the coil.

My suggestion, using good cotton (pads are available cheap from Amazon) in Canada although will take a few weeks to arrive and costs $9 for 200 pads. In the interim you can get some Cotton Bacon from a local shop, or depending on where you are and what is available in your area, PM me your contact info and I can ship you some from Southern Ontario.

I would insert the cotton and only fill the tank a bit and try it, you may need to do it 2-3 times before you master the right amount to use and how tightly to pack it. If I get a chance later I'll post a pic of the cut to size cotton pad next to a ruler for reference...if I find my RBA plus deck I may even build one for demonstration purposes...

RE: Problem with Kanger subox coil causing leaking/spitting. Help?
One of the problems I noticed with my kanger mini c was leaks once in a while. After a lot of investigation, I found a problem.  The pre-built coil wires are sometimes not trimmed properly near the gasket. You'll see the wire kinda hanging out the side.  This was one of my biggest complaints about the pre-built kanger coils. It is kind of an easy fix though.  Trim the wire hanging out of the bottom gasket and gently push it back in until the gasket wants to sit better on the coil. Make sure the wire is still touching the bottom metal or else it will not fire.  After you get the gasket seated a little better, the juice will no longer leak into the inside of the coil. This assumes it is your problem and not one of the others. Hope this helps.

No helpful input, except a new coil fixes so many annoying tank issues. And big Welcome Truz.

RE: Problem with Kanger subox coil causing leaking/spitting. Help?
Actually it is often the coil. I was having serious problems with my pico RTA this week. It had a new CLR rebuildable coil (not that anyone actually rebuilds them). Now replacing coils in a pico is a pita but I decided to see if the coil was the problem. Replaced the coil and voila - my Pico is vaping perfect now.
