security camera(s)
I currently have a "decent" hard wired 4 camera configuration. However with new technology in IR Night Vision, Motion Detection and WIFI not to mention 1080P, I'm looking at updating/replacing the system.

Any CCTV gurus here?

Get a Doberman

I have TWO similar pups, each 75+ lbs they are GREAT for detection and to deal with anyone who gets through the door but regardless of how hard I try, I just can't get them to sketch out or provide a physical description of who was at the door. Smile

Me I’d recommend some giant schnauzers. But they aren’t good a descriptions either. Maybe some Black Russian Terriers. 100kg. Description then is easy, the ones in the ER with matching missing bits.

I see you've got no answers. I guess most of us live in safe places, sorry. Lol

I'd just say be wary of any with proprietary cloud storage with fees, I like your enclosed CCTV thoughts personally. I've looked into systems in the past just because, but all of them seem to have some fee based cloud storage, as far as wireless systems go anyway.

I can check at work next week. I know that the cameras ran around £1500. Each.

Just make a few mock shallow graves with stones that read burgular , peeping tom , asshole , and the like and dig a hole next to them with a blank stone . That should be a strong deterrent .

Why be normal when wierd is so much fun.

My current system has a much smaller HDD. The new systems are 2TBs - no I don't use cloud services because of the storage fees but also the security breach possibilities......

I may run both systems independently. I think I'll try a single or dual camera system before investing on an entirely new system.

As for safe neighbourhoods, I've never had a concern or worry about where I am currently living....security is about prevention BEFORE something happens, not after. Tongue

RE: security camera(s)
I think it's better to consult with specialists to make the right choice. There are so many world class security systems on the market. When I decided to install security сameras in my house in Calgary I asked for help specialists from Union Alarm here https://unionalarm.com/. It is one of the best security companies in the area, I checked all reviews. They helped me find a perfect cameras for my house and save money.
