eLeaf still sucks
I was given an eLeaf iStick 100w mod for Christmas (Roughly 30 days ago, mind you). Sunday is stopped recognizing my Atlantis tank, so I switched to my Herakles tank thinking that would work. It started to display "Atomizer Short". So I switched to my Mutation RDA. Reads "No Atomizer".

Searched online, found this was a common problem with eLeaf devices. Apparently, these devices have a free floating 510, meaning that it is not actually bolted to any part of the frame, but sits in a loose socket. If a tank's threads are tight inside the 510, it can rotate, causing the positive and negative wires to cross, shorting out.
So I had my brother in law who purchased it rode to the vape shop with me yesterday to see if they would replace or repair it. They contacted the manufacturer, who pretty much told them "It's user error, and we don't cover that." So I contacted the manufacturer, at which time I was told the same thing. They basically said I am now the proud owner of a $55 paperweight. Angry

Since I've run out of options to get my device replaced, I've decided to take to the internet and spread this story to every corner that I can find. I would have been satisfied if they had offered to repair it, as this is a known manufacturer defect. Even if I had to cover shipping to them to have it repaired. I actually liked the box, and it was sleek and stylish.

I'm now looking at a Kanger 200w Kbox, or possibly a Reuleaux 200w box. Any suggestions on which you think I would like better?

RE: eLeaf still sucks
The 510 center pin on either of those is also floating.. almost all 510's + pins are.  If the whole connection has twisted round then it's arguable that you over tightened it, after all, finger tight is in no way going to move the whole connector warts n all..

Wismec ftw Smile though it has been known to bost into a million pieces if you drop it from a great hight

RE: eLeaf still sucks
I think he means the Entire 510 connector Mike... in which case that's no way user error and poor design on eleaf's part.

Just looked it up and yep! it's the entire 510

Message to Eleaf, if you're reading this.. stop being cheapskates and use proper 510 connectors for crying out loud!

RE: eLeaf still sucks
The one I looked over just recently seemed fine, though admittedly I wasn't looking for that particular issue.. it certainly didn't spin round when I tightened the tank down.

How tight is tight?,  over tightening is one of the biggest problem causers across all devices and tanks, hence the "arguable" point I made earlier. Non of my atties nor any I've used for any period of time have oversized threads that cause abnormal drag while tightening.

It is a common issue with eleaf products. They had the same problem with the 50w boxes a couple of years ago. They cheaped out on the 510 connector then, too. I'll say that I have learned my lesson with their products, now.

RE: eLeaf still sucks
What is the remarkable thing to me is, how Chinese companies seems to be often reluctant to an extreme to change, even if a negative point or a problem is well known.

I know this statement sounds to be in stark contrast with the fast changes China went through in the past decades. I worked in China for 1.5 years, travelled to and consulted for companies all over China. On a peoples level Chinese are extremely uneasy to facilitate a change.

I worked in China for 1.5 years, this is one of the things I came to know quickly, the reluctance to change.

RE: eLeaf still sucks
Hope you don't mind, I took the liberty of running the problem by elaf to see how they justify it.

I got this in response

Not really the answer to the question i asked.. however, they don't seem to be shirking their responsibility, but more putting it on the retailer to honour their warranty terms.
If it were me I'd try the shop again armed with this, see if I couldn't force their hand!

Certainly in the UK fitness for purpose is the responsibility of the shop that sold it to you not the manufacturer. Sale of Goods Act as amended by various EU legislation is the applicable bit.

RE: eLeaf still sucks
This is an issue a good B+M should take care of. I know mine would instantly replace it and deal with the manufacturer. I haver to say though - I've had my eleaf 100w for awhile with zero issues and even my very old eleaf 30w is still ticking away. I do look at elaeafs as disposable mods though. I don't expect much out of them. However, these are working fine.
You really get what you pay for - a cheap mod is just that.

Not a question of a good one here, it is the law and it is enforced.
