RE: Wow!
Stability in even light winds has got to be quite a challenge, lol

RE: Wow!
Yes, the idea needs more work - but he did spend around $10K on it. I imagine Segway type stabilisation would cost a lot.

RE: Wow!
There are a lot of flight level stability units on the market, even some that AFAIK will work with 8 rotors in real time. The hard bit will be the integration for controlling that many rotors unless the divides them up into banks.. which he might actually be doing already. Hmmm there's food for thought Smile

Johnny is a multi-rotor expert.. I wonder what he will have to say about it.

RE: Wow!
He's using a 6 channel control unit - presumably 6 banks of 8 motors presumably.

RE: Wow!
Pretty sweet but fairly simple to do as well. All the money is tied up in the motor, cells, and ESC(electronic speed controllers) for each motor bank. The flight controller itself is just a $20-$50 piece. I think Don's right about him splitting up the motors into banks. That's how I would have done it. He could go as many as 8 banks of six motors (octocopter) or likely just 6 banks of 8 motors (hexacopter). That way a single flight controller can manage the entire craft.

I wonder how long it will be until he decides to really take it up in the air a couple hundred feet or more. Tongue
