Got some Exproimizer bits coming hopefully tomorrow. I was haunting the work postie today. Got a spare tank in advance and the extension kit (10ml). So I can just mix up quick custard in the tank Smile

RE: What have you got on order ?
Got a X-Drive 1.8a buck driver on the way from DTRs laser shop. Was not cheap, coming in at $30 shipped, but that is a square driver, attached to a 17mm contact board with a spring for the positive battery contact.

Really wish they made quality cheap drivers for lasers... but the diode was $60, and really want to make sure it is properly driven to minimize risks of ruining the diode.

Should have a fully functional 2w 445nm laser this weekend! Wizard

Just ordered a hardcase LiPo pack. 5800mAh and a max discharge rate of around 350A. You can charge it at 40A. It's not that big - 92x46x19mm and is going in some sort of box mod. (With duct tape)

Nah - solid copper bar Smile Well it'll be safe with a 0.012ohm coil. It's gonna have to be heavy copper bar Smile

And the switch that can handle that is going to weigh way more than the LiPo. And it better be a very long drip tip, that's 1.4kW into the juice.

Not as much cloud chasing as fire eating Smile

RE: What have you got on order ?
Yeah, I'm thinking a big current FET and the usual anti-vandal switch. I've heard of copper brake pipe used to carry current and it won't flop around. Should be adequate to a few hundred watts. And I'm not sure I'll ever need or want that much.

Actually something like the SX350 chipset would be fun - 50W regulated. That LiPo would run it for half an hour of continuous firing and it works down to I think 0.2 ohms. I think the board is about 50 quid.

So I might cheap out and just use it without any sort of regulation. Box I'm not sure about, I'm the worst cabinet maker in the world. 510 is going to be a problem - I'm thinking about trying to get some appropriately threaded nuts that I can braze together (M9x1 isn't it?). Drilled 9mm wooden dowel as an insulator - it should thread itself on the nuts. Obviously this will be a consumable though.

I have a chunk of Vespel SP211 here somewhere.. it's what they use in the aviation industry for high speed bearings that cant have any lubrication. It's the best polymer bearing material in the world and has tiny friction, massive pressure and heat capable too. Not to mention completely chemical and acid resistant.

Ridiculously expensive $142 per inch Tongue (if you can even find the stuff)

Well if I could have found it you would have been welcome to it but as with everything in this house... you take your eyes off it for a second and you'll never see it again.
It's like living in the twilight zone here Ireful3
