Tigerfish are supposed to be the ultimate fighters. It is pointless buying one of less than about 3kg (6-7lbs) as these guys have a lot of bones. a LOT of bones.

Too much hassle to get the meat off anything smaller. They taste pretty good in an appropriate Keralan curry. But as exclusively freshwater fish they can taste a bit muddy.

Coming up on big cat time here , an area known as the sand bar tends to yield some nice blues and channel cats as watertemps drop back into the low 70's. Unfortunately it also has tendency to produce huge lake sturgeon if not using live bait , huge fight and state law prohibits landing them . Basicly rule of thumb is sinker in hand is a caught sturgeon , now cut the line

Dogs have owners , Cats have staff .

Sturgeon isn't allowed here either. Only the Queen is allowed whales and sturgeon. Though the though of a little lady of over 90 hauling one in doesn't seem probable.

A very leisurely fight on the part of the fish , an exhausting fight for the fisherman . The fact the fish just moves along as nothing has happened makes for incredible endurance on their part

Dogs have owners , Cats have staff .

Yet they sell them or used to not sure if they still do now in pet shops for garden ponds which are clearly far to small for sturgeon yet they never say the potential size of them!

They grow quite slowly - the big ones are extremely old - even older than me[Image: tongue.gif].

Here we get trout which tastes great but also has a lot of tiny bones. A pain to clean and cook.

Tigerfish, as we've mentioned here before, are awesome. Especially the Goliath 1-ton model. It's one thing to see one caught on TV, but would be quite another to see in person. I'll stick to harmless fish with little scrubber pads for teeth, thanks.
