OK - 2 days and no leaks from the Reaper. It is now matched with the Charon permanently - a nice smart set up[Image: smile.gif].

RE: What did you get today?
A cup of hot water from the coffee maker which is resolutely refusing to make coffee. Looks like I might need some parts, shows that thoroughly cleaning it was a mistake Sad

Hi Don - which coffee maker is it - strange it was OK until it was cleaned - could mean something simple.

Funny thing with coffee pots , my fist one was a $6 procter silex that i used near 10 years . These days you cant buy a coffee pot for less than $20 and those ( sure as politicians eat nails and shit corkscrews) will not last 2 years .

When life hands you lemmons , make lemmon aid . When life hands you coconuts , stuff them in your shirt and ask if they make your boobs look big .

Hi Don - which coffee maker is it - strange it was OK until it was cleaned - could mean something simple.

A ludicrously expensive bean to cup machine, a Gaggia Accademia. The problem appears to have been that the coffee chute after the grinder had got clogged. After cleaning it really thoroughly and giving the machine a full reset and letting it sit for an hour it behaved itself. It has brewed around 8,000 coffees in the last four or so years so it probably really, really wanted some maintenance. Which it has had several hours of.

To show it I cared, it got the brew group flushed with the expensive cleaning tablets, got a new input filter bought for it, and may even go so far as to descale its innards, not as much for the removal of limescale as there won't be any, but to clean any biofilms of the guts of the thing. For this I could drop 9 quid on the approved descaling solution or instead chuck in 20 grams of citric acid in 250ml of water and flush that through it. Which is a tedious process.

I got rid of all the alternative coffee making devices as the Gaggia was so good. I didn't even have any instant in the house.

I do now!

RE: What did you get today?
I had a commercial Bunn dual pot coffee maker (old timey, all switches, no display) that I used at the house for a long time. Wife decided it was too bulky and ugly (not a good sign for me) so she insisted on a cutsey little red thing. It died in 6 months. Now we use a k-cup machine because I think it's fun. I've already had it apart once because it would not pump the water. They don't make stuff like they used to.

RE: What did you get today?
My coffee pots get a weekly treatment with white vinagar and distilled water 1 : 12 . My well is atop an iron shelf and we get alot of sediment especially duringthe spring thaw . Though quite potable ,very unpalatable at times .

RE: What did you get today?
You'd probably be better with citric acid or malic acid Chuck.

But go with what works.
