Well, unless he welded the positive to the base, the only thing I can think of that would be an instant short would be the insulator. As far as DIY fixes, hey, it worked. Sounds like a success to me.

RE: What did you get today?
Plastic is not a good insulator when heat is involved.

Depends on the plastic  Tongue

There's a few plastics readily available that don't change composition until atleast 150°c, could be mike landed on one of those by chance.

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!

RE: What did you get today?
That's entirely possible. I have no idea lol. I only used it a few times after replacing the insulator, since that's about when I started dripping and I never got on well with the Kayfun anyway.

Today I finally got my headphones back! When I was on my trip to Paris, the left ear stopped working, so I had to ship them back to Shure since they were still under warranty. They said they'd probably just repair the one that wasn't working right, but today I was happy to find an entire new set, they replaced both ears and the cable and even sent along a few extra accessories. I'm a very happy music enthusiast/guitar player. So I can finally put my backup Sonys away Tongue

Nice. That's how customer service should be.

Sad but true. That's why I post here when I do run into an outfit that understands where their bread is buttered.

RE: What did you get today?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Great service, and while it feels like it took forever, I just now realized that part of the time was me taking forever to get them packaged and sent away, so it really only took about a week and a half from when I sent it until I got the new ones back. It's not often you find customer service that gets it back to you that fast and just replaces the whole thing, especially when they're as expensive as these were (my Shure se215 earphones cost around $100, which is one of their cheapest options). Overall I'm very impressed, and of course if there are any audiophiles out there, I highly recommend Shure products.

RE: What did you get today?
I used to depend on customer recommendations for my next job. And I was good at what I did. These days I don't care about networks - I'll point them at an electrician who can do it at 15% of the bill I'd be interested in doing the job for.

But for folks I'd never see again - add two zeros to the bill. If I didn't want to hear from them again, I added three zeros.

And mostly got paid.

Usually bullshit works. I've had the conversation that ended with, "Pay me way more than than or I'm not getting out of my bed."
Normally after I've had to clean up behind folks who thought they knew what they were doing. I do everything to encourage those guys as they make me a fortune.

These days, that market is dead - but it paid off my mortgage.

I can still do that stuff but don't want to. If anyone really needs me to do so, well, i would like a new car.
