RE: What are you listening to?
Some Delta blues - usually I prefer Chicago blues, but this is good.

Back to my anarchist roots.

Then for some glue and crystal meth.

Spent this afternoon at a meeting with people in charge of a $500 million budget.

This brings out the revolutionary in me.

Especially as I was there to tell them about suicide - and the 2-3 folks a day who kill themselves in Scotland.

This is just wrong. Like the 92 year old lady who hanged herself not far from here.

Or the 85 year old man who blew himself up.

Then to get to a bad place. I work in a psychiatric hospital so bad stuff comes naturally....

What I try to prevent. Yes, it gets ugly rather too often.

I may have a rather sick sense of humour, but this is the ringtone on the 3 phones I carry.

Then to complete the pity party - it's tragic that this band succumbed to heroin.

They were brilliant. In the UK we had 4, not 9 minutes to comply. Peter Porter who wrote the poem lived in the US.

Now that's what I'm talking about Don. Along with my Godsmack, I just burned me a CD of Alice in Chains. The song "Brother" with Ann Wilson singing along is fantastic.

Don, as a homicide detective I handled so many suicides. I always thought, why at the last minute didn't they reach out to someone. Sorry2

RE: What are you listening to?
What we try to do is to be that someone. And make sure they have phone numbers that will be answered at 4am on a Sunday. It's not possible to win every time but we can try...

Respect Jerry. I couldn't do your job!

And don't even want to think how bad your job can get.

And again Respect Jerry!

I'd hate to have to do your job.

The guy I work for in suicide prevention was a very senior cop.
In military equivalents a 2 star general.

RE: What are you listening to?
A very good friend of mine is rushing south to a hospital where her mother is dying.

Do not go gentle into that good  night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Or

THEY told me, Heraclitus, they told me you were dead,
They brought me bitter news to hear and bitter tears to shed.
I wept as I remember'd how often you and I
Had tired the sun with talking and sent him down the sky.

And now that thou art lying, my dear old Carian guest,
A handful of grey ashes, long, long ago at rest,
Still are thy pleasant voices, thy nightingales, awake;
For Death, he taketh all away, but them he cannot take.

Or the one that rips my heart out. But heals.

There is nothing to compare with the pain of death

You were here, and now you are not.

That’s all.

I search for you in old photographs, letters

things you touched

things that remind me of you,

but they cannot fill the space you occupied.

The space is in me too,

bleeding round the edges where you were torn away.

In the night, strange spaces haunt the space….

regret, fear, fury,

all the things we might have done,

all the unused dreams.

How can I go on with this hole inside me?

A partial person?

God, don’t let me fill the space with the wrong things.

Don’t let me cover it up

to eat me from within.

Give me courage to hold my emptiness,

to hold it gently

till the edges stop bleeding;

(will they? ever?)

till the darkness becomes friendly;

till I see some star at its heart;

till it becomes a fertile space,

growing new life within it.

If we had not loved you, we would not have wept.

This love you have given us;

this love we have carried

this love has carried us.
And I know that though I cannot see you, touch you, the love does not go away.
