RE: The ultimate mod?
quote from Grand Innovations:

From lcd to tft screen.. from 40watts it becomes 100watts max

Gi1 will be upgraded to catch up some gi2 features.. will let you know soon

I hope they do not mind me sharing the information.

If it is a significant amount less, I may go this route.

RE: The ultimate mod?
Thanks for the updates, I'll be interested to see what they end up with as a product. So are they continuing with the Gi2 but at a hugely increased price ?

RE: The ultimate mod?
Hmm IMO this mod is incredibly dangerous. Most people will take it at face value that since the cells in the mod are in series that it's all fine and dandy.

I assumed the cells would be used in parallel in this mod but nope... you're able to pull a maximum of 168 watts using cells IN SERIES!!!! Fucking stupid and an accident waiting to happen.

Well here's the review anyhow but I will be personally running a mile from it

RE: The ultimate mod?
That is rather terrifying.

Why on earth didn't they put in a LiPo that could comfortably handle the silly amps. That's pulling 22 amps on less than fresh cells. In series? Hope they provide a very good balancing charger with it! And tell people to replace the cells monthly.

That is a total deal killer for me.

RE: The ultimate mod?
Yeah that's exactly what I thought Don, for these kind of amps the cells need to be perfectly balanced and properly matched for in series use.

Imagine if someone gets their cells mixed up and puts an IMR behind an ICR or a Sony vtc behind an ultrafire cell etc.... at these power levels there's going to be a Bang for sure. Also it's quite incredible just how many people mix and match their Li-Ion cells without a care in the world just like they would with primaries. They get away with it because they're not pulling any real power, you start reverse charging a cell at huge amps and you have a deadly serious safety hazard.

I sincerely hope there's some dedicated cell monitoring safety circuitry built in but I wouldn't be willing to bet on that would you ?

RE: The ultimate mod?
There is also the issue of runtime at high amps - let alone the safety issues. I reckon the reason they didn't us a LiPo was runtime vs. charge time. I doubt the VTC4s can produce a usable amp hour at those loads so that's 3 minutes vaping, swap out the cells, 3 minutes more. Like anyone is ever going to vape at 168W for long.

This LiPo has more usable capacity, is 25C rated, and costs less than a pair of VTC4s. OK, it's twice as long. Those could easily enough be swapped out and would be a lot safer. Though LiPos were never intended to be used in your face.

Something like these in a chassis that allows them to be swapped out with the Gi2 chipset would be a lot safer. And have more useful life. And are designed to be run flat in 3 minutes though i do wonder what the cycle life would be like at that power.

RE: The ultimate mod?
One of the biggest reasons that I got out of the business was liability. I'm retired (fixed income) and I have assets to protect. The extra money would sure come in handy but not if I end up with a lawsuit out of it. There are just so many ways a person can mess something up themselves and you end up in court. E-cigs are safer than smoking, that I'm convinced of, I'm also convinced that lawyers couldn't care less. I also know that it's only a matter of time before Tobacco companies and Big Pharma go on the offensive by encouraging lawsuits against individual sellers. All they need to do is win one case for the floodgates to open up. At the very least anyone selling e-cigs should consider starting an LLC to protect their assets. Even then it's no guarantee that you won't end up bankrupted before you ever get to court.

I could't imagine selling a product like this. Selling e-cigs is already risky business, this is just adding a whole other layer, it's crazy.

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

RE: The ultimate mod?
Yep.

And ecig folk law has it like this.

1. vct4 invulnerable
2. Aw imr invulnerable
3. Icr cells take your face as soon as look at you
4. Cells in series are fine if it has a "chip" (it really really really pisses me off hearing a circuit board being called a chip by some fuckwit claiming to educate you, I simply cannot resist pointing out to the gormless imbeciles that the chip is a small part of the overall circuit).
5. Nitecore i4 charger nothing is better. Ever.
6. Cells cannot be used in series without out a "chip" grrrrrrr

Sorry for the rant, I'm feeling tetchy tonight

RE: The ultimate mod?
That's just one of the many issues with it. Glad they upped the price and made me not want to buy it. From the looks of it they are having all sorts of issues with it

This is clearly a mod for Arnold Schwarzenegger wannabes.

Careful... he's packing two i134 Terminators. Scare
