The Merchant of Menace
Quote:“If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?”

A blog post written by me about the ridiculous pseudo-science/lies being spouted by doctors (who really ought to know better.

Quote:For a long time we have, in general, been used to taking things at face value: our police uphold the law, our politicians run the country in our best interests and our doctors take science and medicine seriously. The catalogue of problems with bad policing is well known, politicians are as popular as a sexually transmitted disease and the veil of professionalism within the medical fraternity has truly fallen.

Step forward Doctor Kamerow, an associate editor with the world’s oldest medical magazine, the BMJ.

The man just makes stuff up and demands legislation because nicotine is a poison...but mainly he wants strict laws because it will rob his magazine of pharmaceutical advertising revenue.

RE: The Merchant of Menace
Great article, Good Job smacking him down if anyone deserves it it's guys like that.

They scream "It's for the Children" as if this Appeal to Emotion is logical in and of itself.

What liked was his claim that e-cigs were status symbols with grade school kids. Interesting, not likely true but if it is then it's another step forward. When I was in grade school Smoking was a status symbol. Here's the thing, I got hooked on smoking in 8th grade. I doubt any of these kids that try an e-cig are getting enough nicotine to get hooked. I'm also convinced that there is more in cigarettes that are addictive then just the nicotine. Obviously supply people with nicotine isn't enough to get most people to quit. If that worked then patches and gum would work every single time. I think e-cigs work but only because it tricks part of your brain into thinking you are still getting your daily cig. Although obviously even then you have to really want to quit smoking or not even e-cigs will get you off of them.

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

RE: The Merchant of Menace
The problem is, since these people will never be held accountable for their actions, they'll spew out any old propaganda garbage knowing full well the implications to public health but with little or no recourse to hold them back.

This is where the system falls down and crime is quite literally legalised within government and it's close knit associates. If ANYTHING at all that's linked with profit margins in the broad scheme of things that's obviously detrimental to public health then IMO the instigators of the disinformation and propaganda should face criminal charges.

It'll never happen but I guarantee that public health policies would be based on science fact instead of hidden agendas and lies.

RE: The Merchant of Menace
NHS Scotland have banned smoking and vaping in all hospital premises and grounds. Except in Lothian where you can still vape. I counted 20 different patients smoking at the back door this morning Smile
