Staggered fused Clapton
I have watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to make these things, with the Daedalus and without. But I must be freaking stupid because I can't understand what they are doing. How do they space the wrap? Seriously. I watched several videos with tips, including a button technique that looked promising, but none of them work.

I am not the most patient man on the planet, so I am stopping before I throw the jig, the wire, the chargers, and all my stupid gear out the damn window. I know me; I will do it. I've beaten many electronics to death out of frustration, most recently my Garmin GPS that lasted for 10 uses before going permanently stupid. I found out later there is an un-bricking process, but it was in about as many pieces as one can be in by that time. So I have to stop. But I want to beat the jig to a million pieces right now.

Someone here, can you put it into words and/or link a specific video that shows it simply and cleanly, and it would help if the video quality is good. Many bonus points for a Daedalus video. The ones I found are horrible.

I am not going to attempt this tonight. I am going to continue to use my regular fused Clapton and drink as many beers as my body will allow. I will maybe try again tomorrow. Hopefully some good posts will follow.

To summarize, how the <redacted> do you get the <redacted> <redacted> <redacted> spacing in the <redacted><redacted><redacted><redacted> coil, please?

RE: Staggered fused Clapton
Sorry, went to bed Lazy back now Coffee2

Cut a foot length of the wrap and fold half inch a couple times one end.
Put that end in a drill chuck, along with the core wire and another wrap wire from the spool.
Hold the two wraps parallel in your fingers, with the short one away from the chuck and the spool one closest.
Hit the trigger and begin to make a parallel clapton wrap.
Once you've made what looks a neat wrap (I allowed 1' to manage that!) By hand *wrap another turn from the short one. Keep the spool taught. Pull the wire out of the chuck and grab the folded wrap. Unwind it from there (under mild tention) until a few turns from where you added one extra earlier*
You should now have two ends of a wire wrapped around an already started spaced wrap still on the spool, trim them even and attach a weight to the ends.
Now set up your daedelus as per usual, trying your best to keep what you've just done in good order. Keep the two weighted ends around 90° to the angle the spool is fed on from.
Should just wrap into a spaced clapton. Do about two foot so you don't have to repeat the earlier steps, just cut the wire in half for both sides of the staggered fc

RE: Staggered fused Clapton
It would be a hell of a lot easier just to make a fused Clapton and steep it in some cheap vodka[Image: tongue.gif].

I think I know what is wrong. I think the 40g outer is too thin.

RE: Staggered fused Clapton
Well, I did figure it out, and with the 40g, as well. It is not, I repeat not, anything near jewelry. I used the video below to get my understanding finally squared away. It wasn't your fault G. I am just thick headed sometimes. Anyway, here is the wire, and a coiled version I will be installing soon as a single on a modified Iron Maiden. Forgive a terrible camera with zero value with close ups. It is 28/40 SS316L, the only wire I have enough of. Thank you Button Trick for helping a simpleton figure it out. And I did not use the Deadalus jig, only the drill part.

And the video that softened a thick shell for me.

I'll post the finished build in the Yer Wick thread, hopefully the picture will be better.
