Squonking Device
I'm not sure if this is a mod review, an atomiser review or what. So calling it a mod as that's the biggest bit.

It rejoices in the title of S-Body update S-CA1. That's the last time you'll be hearing that mouthful from me Smile

Here are the specs from the manufacturer. Note the weight, it is a heavy little thing. My kitchen scales say it is 317g with an 18650 and a full juice bottle. 380g is presumably what it weighs in its packaging which is one of those nice magnetically closed cardboard boxes. Like the ones that most of my Foggers (I have four of them) came in. Just quite a bit bigger.

Unfortunately the battery vent holes are at the wrong end - the cell goes in + end down and that is where it is going to vent if it is going to vent. Any cell that vents will have swollen so there is little or no chance of gas escape from those vent holes. This is hardly unusual though. I'm not prepared to put a cell in the other way up and risk blowing the circuits in it. Realistically on a 15W mod this isn't a big deal especially as it has a 10-second cutoff.

I'd strongly disagree that one-button operation makes it easier. Five clicks to switch it on. Three rapid clicks to get into the menu. Farther clicks will scroll through the menu. You need to press and hold the menu item to be able to change it. Click till you get it where you want it and hold the button again. You'll get there but it isn't simple or particularly easy. To switch it off, three clicks. Then click and hold on the System menu. Then click to yes on the System off Yes/No. Then hold the button down till it switches off. Or unscrew the battery cap. fortunately once you've set it up you aren't going to be changing many menu items.

Actually I wish the fire button were on the battery cap - it would work more nicely there for those with European sized hands. I have rather small hands and this is a small and heavy device.

Yeah - that really is the point of a squonker! You can see the hole in the base of the atty where the juice comes up.

The atty coiled and wicked, you want to use as little cotton as you can get away with for flavour. You can always squish up some more juice as required.

Better angle so you can see the juice hole in the bottom of the atty.

It won't fire without a suitable load attached (1.5-3 ohms according to the spec). It flashes the message at you so you can't miss it.

the boot screen - it took several tries to get this pic.

It is a pretty small device - here it is beside an 18650. Those AWT ones are a tight fit. It is fine with Samsung 25R's, VTC4's, LG HE2/4. It won't take my fat Panasonic 3100 and 3400mAh cells and there is no chance at all of any protected cell fitting in there. The circuitry will give you plenty of ell protection anyway. Note the lip goop on the drip tip - I scratched it all off this morning.[Image: 16561547522_ebec570d0e_b.jpg]

Looking down on the 510 - you can see the juice hole.

The atty base - that reel of 22g (0.6mm) Kanthal made a handy stand.

The squonking bottle. The dip tube is a nice touch - you'll get every drop out of the bottle without having to squeeze it to death. It is hard to over drip as the surplus will be sucked back into the bottle when you release pressure on the bottle.

Bottle, atty and top cap.

The atty is not bad at all, it has a nice small volume and (just) enough airflow for lung hits. At least I think it does as I'm just getting over a flu-type illness and any attempt to lung hit is followed by a coughing fit. Flavour is good. Which is the point of a dripper. Squonking makes the process more convenient.

Verdict.
The atomiser and the power output are very well matched. The atty wouldn't have enough airflow for higher power but it is a 15W device so this isn't an issue. It is rather heavy for its size, the button location is far from perfect and the menus (Fortunately avoidable as you only have to suffer them once) a PITA. It was a fraction of the price of something like a Sunbox though. I paid £40 ($62 at today's exchange rate) for it and reckon it was worth it.

Good bits - convenience, flavour, this one isn't setting off any smoke detectors. This is not a cloud-chasers device. Different looking even by the standards of strange vaping devices - it got a lot of comments in the vaping shelter today.

RE: Squonking Device
Very nice write up Don thanks for that. I like it a lot actually, and wouldn't be surprised if squonking becomes huge going forward. I wonder how long till there's an electronic squonking mechanism Big Grin

So you can't use other tanks and atty's on this one right?

Any bottom feed atty will work. Most of these are horribly expensive though. All bottom feed devices I know about are drippers but since the bottle holds 8ml it will keep you going a while. It has a standard 510 so would take anything that will make contact

Thanks for the great write up and pics, Don! I've always wondered about the squonkers and you've answered my questions. Smile

Such foresight Spasmod!!!

So, fast forward a few millennia and we see that Spas was indeed quite the prophet! So what's next on the horizon, Spas?

RE: Squonking Device
Strange that this should crop up. The black one in the post is the very mod that Don kindly sent to me that got me started on squonking - I still have it and it still works - even although the cover has worn off the fire button. With me vaping MTL 15W was more than enough although it does only adjust in .5W increments. Nostalgia - I still remember this arriving and was a little scared about it at first - it was so different to anything else I had used - which was a 20W Istick and my Nautilus.[Image: tongue.gif] This was the gear that truly changed my vaping and it became the hobby that it is now. I will be forever in Don's debt for his kindness - which still continues to this day.
Thanks TW for resurrecting this thread - great memories.

RE: Squonking Device
That was a fun device though it was a hugely heavy little thing. There was a lot of die cast zinc in it.
