Sick from vaping? Need advice!
Hi all.  I need some input and advice.  I started to vape for the first time on Wednesday
evening. I bought the penguin se and used kai's virgin vapor 100%vg.  On Friday evening, I took a large hit. It tore up my throat and lungs. I coughed extremely
heavily.  I then went to bed but coughed  off on and in night. When I woke up Sat morning, my lungs were still killing me. On saturday i coughed
heavily all day. It was bad.  Then i spiked  a 101 fever sat night.  Actually had to use an inhaler I got in the winter and popped an antibiotic.  Has anyone heard of this reaction
reaction from a newbie? Did I do something wrong?  Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Were you a smoker before you started vaping?

RE: Sick from vaping? Need advice!
I had similar sideffects when I first started vaping ... Not that coughing through the whole night and stuff ... But my body temperature was way to high ... I didn't know too what it is .. But now after vaping for nearly 3 years I tell you something that might have happened: A) To high nicotine dose ("overdose"!) or B) Allergic reaction to either some Flavour or the VG!

Try to change your Nicotine (If using salt try the freebase) and the level of the nicotine (If you vaped f.e. 6mg try out 3mg) ... Then try out another ratio of VG/PG...

That should help, otherwise I would personally search up a doctor.

Greetings and welcome to the worlds best vaping forum

Chris

RE: Sick from vaping? Need advice!
Thanks Chris.  Def not the nicotine.  Heavy smoker.  My brother is dropping me off some vg/pg juice.  I'm going to try and see if that will help.  I vaped the 100%vg again this afternoon and my chest felt really heavy and I started weezing.  I dont want to smoke anymore and I thought I found my answer with  vaping. Hoping the lower vg ratio will help

It can still be the nicotine even if you were a heavy smoker, because it reacts otherwhise then the nicotine in cigarettes.
Nicotine in cigarettes takes up from 5-8 seconds to go into your bloodline, the freebase nicotine from the vape takes up to 15 Minutes to have the same effect, nic salts about 1 minute.
Thats why most of the people grab higher dosed nicotine and vape and vape and get headaches from vaping from an slightly nicotine overdose for example.

But try out the other juice, maybe this will help out :-)

I cannot vape over 60% VG or I start hacking up VG.
No fever and such though.
I vape 50/50 PG/VG.

However I do have bad reactions to some ingredient (s) in commercial ejuice.
Bad oral, throat and lung irritation.
And why I almost gave up pon vaping and went back to smoking.
But I started DIY very quickly with 100% natural flavorings and then found some regular flavorings that I could tolerate.
That was well over 4 years ago. Still vaping and kicked a 40 yr 1.5 PAD smoking habit and feel much better.

Good point , low end juice can have some nasty things in it , unfortunately big price tag doesn't always mean quality . Btw never buy those 4.99 juices at the corner store , unless ofcorsd your trying to get rid of a nuisance raccoon .

Dogs have owners , Cats have staff .

RE: Sick from vaping? Need advice!
There are a number of possible reasons why you got this reaction after using vape: Incorrect vaping technique, irritants in the vapor caused coughing, specifically the propylene glycol, or nicotine strength was too high and caused this throat hit. I hope you're doing ok. Vaping puts nicotine into the body. Nicotine is highly addictive and can slow brain development in teens and affect memory, concentration, learning, self-control, attention, and mood, but also increase the risk of other types of addiction later in life. So my advice would be to try and quit it as fast as possible.

RE: Sick from vaping? Need advice!
Hmm, I don't know if any of you are licensed physicians but I'm not so my first suggestion is to consult your doctor...

That said, I've had some bad reactions to certain e-juices. It's been a while since I've had one that really didn't work well with me but I remember taking a puff of a mango one and feeling a heavy sensation in my chest. Tried the same juice later and felt similar. I'm actually allergic to quite a few things so it may have been a mild allergic reaction. I don't actually know what it was but my guess is one or more of the ingredients weren't well suited for me and I never vaped it again. The same has happened with some other juices. Unfortunately, it's like food... you somewhat don't know until you try.

Regarding smoking, I definitely had a rough time with vaping when I first tried to switch over from smoking. It's similar, yeah, but I wasn't used to the sensation of vapor so it felt a little strange and made me cough. I remember the very first times being like "ya I don't like this" and just kept smoking. I think what a lot of us maybe forget is how we reacted when we first started to smoke. I literally threw up smoking my first pack. All over my shoes. Now that's a bad reaction lol. So it might take some getting used to but you also might need to try a different juice with different ingredients and possibly a different nicotine strength. I know what really worked well for me was nic salts. Strong nic salts. They get into you quick, giving you your fix without hesitation. That helped a lot I think. Strangely, I wasn't much of a menthol cig fan but when I started vaping I found a good mint, spearmint with a touch of menthol, to be a really good fit for me. Nowadays I don't even really want to smell anything tobacco related, let alone inhale it, so I stay away from the tobacco flavored e-liquids for the most part.

You do sound like you're having a bad reaction though. We're all so unique that it's hard to give advice on what it could be. I mean, hell, there are people that are allergic to water (Aquagenic urticaria) so it really could be anything. I hope you figure out what works for you and what doesn't before you give up on trying to switch to vaping because it's really done wonders for me making the switch. Good luck!!
