SS (stainless steel) wire/coils / Uwell crown 0.5ohm ss Are they SAFE?
Hi Guys

what does everyone think?  are the SS UWell Crown coils (forgetting the Ni200 0.15ohm Nickel "nightmare coils") safe in your opinions here?

I have seen a Vid raising extra concerns when we move away from KanThal and move towards other metals like SS

why did the UWELL crown opt for stainless steel? and is it safe to use on my Snow Wolf 200w?

i use the 0.5ohm coil exclusively and i'm finding that the device is sometimes switching between temp mode and power mode all on its own..
and could over priming the atomiser/coil before vaping a new coil contribute to this or make it worse?

thanks guys .. i just want to look into this before i maybe look for a new SAFE Kanthal tank. (any Kanthal Coil/tank recommendations guys?)

Thanks A Lot!

ant

Don and gentlydoingit* are our resident experts on coils and wire, hopefully they'll be along shortly.
In the meantime, I've heard that SS is safer than Nickel or Titanium, but I don't know how much safer. iirc I believe SS is better for temp control, but I've heard of people using it in power mode too. The other guys should be able to answer your question better.
I don't recall seeing your username around here, are you new? If so, welcome to the forum! (and if not, I'm sorry for not remembering)

I'd thought ss was the causing the tc switching issue, but as you've already got the issue, lol, the coils are fine on a snow wolf.. though tc'ing them might not be a good idea. Power mode is way better. Ss is my favorite wire by a long way, better flavour, vapour, ramp up, you name it it's better at it Biggrin

316l is the only biomedical metal currently used in vaping and has NO effect on the human body, as long as its not at *weld temperatures.. which they'll never be!

*same goes for any vape wire, some are more important not to get red hot than others.

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!

RE: SS (stainless steel) wire/coils / Uwell crown 0.5ohm ss Are they SAFE?
What Mike said!

TC needs a big change in resistance with temperature - SS doesn't really give you that so the signal is trickier than with some other wires.

It is considerably lower in resistance than Kanthal.

There are concerns about Nickel and Titanium. If you aren't using TC I'd go for SS every time as you can treat it like Kanthal. You can dry burn it which would be unwise with Ni and Ti.

I'd say it is as safe as any wire can be.

The only issue can be seen quite clearly if you go to the Wire Wizard on Steam Engine and get it to make graphs for 316Sss, titanium and nickel. I'll generate the graphs and stick them up in a minute

Stainless steel wire (316)

Titanium wire (Titanium 1)

Nickel wire (Ni200)

All you really need to take from this is the relative slopes of the graphs., the steeper the slope, the easier job the TC circuitry has. As you can see with SS wire the slope is much flatter so the TC circuitry has to be more precise in measuring change in resistance.

Actually platinum wire would work very well. Just would cost a fortune. The graph for it is close to that for titanium.

Aspire has been using Stainless since the Triton
kanger now has Stainless in the top box kits
Smok is using stainless

Not saying it's safe or not, just many of the makers are moving in that direction.

I'd say there are fewer health paranoia issues with SS than there are with Kanthal...

And using Kanthal worried me not at all.

Hey I used to burn things that kill half of the folks that used them..
