RE: Reputation?
It's kind of like a 'Super' like button that is trackable with comments, but instead gives a member a personal and visible positive boost (kind of like positive feedback). There can be any number of reasons to add to someone's reputation, but it usually occurs most when one member goes above and beyond to help out another member. Good2

RE: Reputation?
The only downside being, it only works when people know about it, so lots of very deserving posts and members never get any.  :-p

On boards with this feature enabled, it usually comes to mean something once there are a LOT of members and people that use boards a lot.  On TVF right now, it's nioce to have but it isn't used much.

We'll never be one of the biggest forums because we don't allow the marketing or affiliate spam, so we don't attract the freeloaders. The community atmosphere more than makes up for that though.

I think so at least Smile

You are so right - this forum is so much different from the others mainly because of the community spirit that exists. This makes it much more helpfull and informative than the others and certainly more friendly - long may it continue like this, the reputation thing I have never really looked at before - is it a bad reputation if it goes onto minus[Image: smile.gif]

RE: Reputation?
Definitely agree.

I'm comparing to my car boards and such, where 50k+ or even 250k+ membership isn't unusual, with thousands or tens of thousands of active users.  On those boards, you make a good, informative post and you get not ony dozens or hundreds of "likes", but if it helped people, tons of reputation.

Here, I didn't get my first rep point until just a couple of months ago, and my second was from my post in THIS thread, LMAO!  I don't CARE, but it's weird to me - a veteran of so many other vBoards - to make long, detailed, helpful posts and never get any reputation, lol.

I did that on purpose, for the sake of irony.

For me, I think the 'likes' are being used here in place of reputation. For one thing, it's easier- hit a button. Reputation requires you to take further action by bringing up a comment window and requiring another click. Reuptation to me always meant more of a bellweather for determining if the member is a stand up guy when it comes to buying and selling, rather than just producing helpful advice. It's always been a system for measuring the 'credit worthiness' of the member outside of the forum. So here, I just drop likes when I appreciate a post, for either being helpful, funny, or whatever.
