Re-building RDA tanks
I am really interested in re-building my Patriot RDA tank, and others I may buy in the future. My main question is, when purchasing wire, is there a preferred gauge to use? I'm still new to the OHM properties.

RE: Re-building RDA tanks
First up, it depends on your vaping preference and device.
Are you a direct lung inhaler, or do you prefer a mouth to lung hit?

In my Mutation X v2 I run a dual coil, each coil consisting of 5 wraps of 26awg Kanthal around a 2.5mm shaft for 0.6 ohm each. When paired, the final reading sits at 0.3 ohm.
I vape this on a Sigelei 150w at a power rating of 48 watts.

For my mech mods, I tend to run 22/24awg Kanthal.

I've also got an iStick and Igo-L RDA for taste testing juices with a higher percentage of PG ,and I use a single 28awg coil at roughly 1.4ohm.

RE: Re-building RDA tanks
I direct inhale. I tried mouth to lungs and I choke. So 5 wraps of 26awg seems to be what I need. I am currently using a 30 watt Istick, but I really like Mech Mods. I see you have a link. You must be a vendor. I will check it out. I-m_so_happy

You might find a coil calculator handy if you're in uncertain territory... http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp
There a few details that effect the final outcome of your coil resistance.

Just a reviewer, not affiliated to any stores.

For the 30w iStick, I would suggest going with 26 or 28 awg.
Does that RDA have just one air hole? You might want to drill that out a bit if it does.

2 air holes. Kind of small though.

RE: Re-building RDA tanks
get some 26 and some 28.  Those are by far the most versatile gauges.  You'll probably use more 26 than anything with your Patriot, but sometimes the higher resistance 28 is handy.

Remind one liberal per day, that laws affect only the law-abiding.

Thanks A.J. I kind of know what sub ohming means, but as a beginner, is that what I should be doing? Or is that difficult to do for a beginner making his own wire?

RE: Re-building RDA tanks
Building your own coils is actually less complicated that what it seems.  Your wire gauge and coil type will depend on your mod.  With a 30 watt istick, The 26g single strand, 5 wrap will work.

There are tons of resources for learning how to build various coils online.  There are literally thousands of video tutorials on Youtube that show you how to build just about anything.

If you ever upgrade your mod, you'll want to start trying different setups for various uses.
