Question About Music
Hello my friends, especially those in Europe

I have a question about buying music that is not available in the US. For instance, there is a newish artist who has a couple albums, I rather enjoy her folkish and homespun sound, but iTunes only has one of her albums. The other was only released in Europe and is not available at any retail places that I have tried over here.

Is there a place where I can download an album like this? Of course, I'd be perfectly willing to buy the darn thing, I just want it.

Thanks,

Polecat

RE: Question About Music
Hi PC - who is the artist - can you access it through Pandora in the US?

RE: Question About Music
Hey, Polecat. I’ve been big into electronic music for the better part of 20 years, and the best of it has always come out of Europe, so I’ve quite a bit experience chasing down stuff that’s not readily available in US retails shops. Back in the ‘90s and early 2000s, it was small record shops, mostly on/near college campuses; they tend to have a lot of the less mainstream-y, underground stuff, and if not, they had reasonable access to it through what I always assumed was a seedy black market network where I could order Aphex Twin’s lesser-known works done under an obscure alias as well as a slightly used kidney or set of eyes; I did several special orders for CDs, paid a premium, but got what I was looking for. Since then and the propagation of the Internet into every aspect of our daily lives, Amazon has been my haven. There’s very little one can’t find on Amazon, be it CD, vinyl or digital downloads. I use Spotify solely as my streaming service (best thing to happen to the internet since porn,) and when I discover a new artist or track I like, I head over to Amazon where I can normally see artists’ complete catalogues (for some reason, some artists don’t make their entire catalogue available on Spotify) and comparison shop or buy one song at a time via digital media.

There's no ‘I’ in ‘TEAM.’ There’s no ‘U’ either. It doesn’t appear the TEAM needs us, so let’s go grab a beer!Drinks

Hey X, so you're an Alphaville man then?

RE: Question About Music
Alphaville?? No, not quite! Never really got into “Synthpop” and the like, though I did have a particular fondness for Kraftwerk (who predates Alphaville by a decade or so) and some of the more “digestible” popular stuff from the late ‘80s-early ‘90s. I’ve since moved on to the more nuanced, subdued and intellectually demanding stuff.

RE: Question About Music
Also, Polecat, try Soundcloud.com and Bandcamp.com; those are largely artists-supported sites, so they're GREAT places to find really obscure stuff; lots of indie stuff from around the world on both.

RE: Question About Music
Yes - If you let us know who the artist is, we'll see what can be done.

If they are on Fat Hippy Records there's no problem as I can easily sort you out. Captain Tom is a good guy.
