Preferred post count on decks?
Howdy folks, I'm looking at going into custom or boutique decks with my buddy. We have a background in gunsmithing and general metal work. He has about 5 years in while I went through a different path and worked in law enforcement. Due to a shattered leg on my end he and I are now talking about opening a gunsmithing business, but we're both into vaping (to different extents) and thought it would be really neat to use our own decks. From there we started thinking about selling them in small quantities at reasonable prices.

We are at the planning stages, a few months out (at least) from actually having enough built to sell. But I wanted to post up and get a feel for what folks are looking for in a deck. If y'all could be kind enough to tell me what you like in the comments, I would greatly appreciate it.Things like the number of posts, a juice well, materials, things of that nature. Also, tips that are part of the shell, or shells with inserts for drip tips?

RE: Preferred post count on decks?
Personally, I'm a big fan of 2-post decks. For example the Velocity, Phenotype-L, Aromamizer, etc. Having only two posts allows more room to play with big coil builds. I could never fit a pair of twisted fused Claptons in a 3-post RDA, and even 4-post is smaller than 2. Of course, the only reason I prefer 2-post is because I enjoy making crazy complex coils, and for folks who like building simple coils a 3-post is great. If you make a 2-post, make sure to have big post holes to accommodate large coils. The Velocity's holes are a bit small for fused Claptons, that's why I use my Phenotype-L more, but ideally I'd like a 2-post RDA with four large holes, since it's hard to work dual coil complex builds into the Phenotype-L with just one hole on each side, the coils tend to push each other out of the hole.

I hope that made sense, I just realized I might be speaking a foreign language Tongue

Edit: as far as the cap goes, that depends on the person using it. I prefer RDAs with a competition-style cap, really wide mouthpiece for lots of airflow. But that's because I'm a cloud chaser. Smaller chamber with a normal 510 drip tip is better for flavor.

So for me, and the way I vape, the ideal RDA would be a 2-post build deck with two large holes in each post, a large juice well to pack the wick down in, a competition-style cap with a wide mouthpiece, and a lot of airflow. Basically the Phenotype-L with better post holes Smile

As long as there's four holes I don't care how many posts there are tbh.

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!

RE: Preferred post count on decks?
I've got a few designs that I'm not going to have the time to mess with any time soon - I'd be happy to pass them along.  These include very different deck designs in general and a completely new post design that allows for effectively unlimited coil arrangements and sizes.

I would definitely appreciate that. Even if it's just to get a feel for how things need to go it would extremely useful for me.

A 2 post deck - more than that I get confused[Image: smile.gif]. 2 holes per post, a reasonably deep well and airflow that can be adjusted to practically zero - for MTL vaping, and a cap that will take a standard drip tip. If you could make me one tomorrow that would be fine[Image: smile.gif].

RE: Preferred post count on decks?
I like 2 posters also, but not as much for crazy builds as for the ability to easily center the coils. As for the cap, I like it as wide as possible. The large one on the 13/9 is perfect; it's like breathing air without having to open the above-coil slots like the Velocity requires for such free airflow. And colors! Who doesn't like to color coordinate their setup? And optional engraving to personalize it.

Do you have AutoCAD software or should I export them as a PDF?  :-)
