Max VG vs. 100% VG - The Difference?
Alright, so as someone who only recently discovered that I have an intolerance to PG in e-juice, I'm a total novice when it comes to Max VG juice.  Pretty much all I know is, I can't vape 50/50, 70/30, or even 80/20 blends without having some pretty nasty side effects.  A friend turned me on to e-juice that had no PG in it...Strawberry Kiwi flavor from Mt. Baker Vapor.  At only 3mg strength, I couldn't believe how smooth and enjoyable it was.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the actual flavor, though, so I branched out and ordered some samplers from MBV.  I received several flavors, mostly fruity, but some dessert as well.  I let them steep for a couple of days, and then tried em out...and they ALL felt like I was back to vaping with PG...harsh throat hit, with a burning, irritating-ish type of feeling.  So I went hunting on other websites, and found one called Good as Gold e-liquids.  I ordered one of their Custard flavors and it was AMAZING.  Smooth as silk, and full of flavor.  Loved it.  Unfortunately, their juice is a little too expensive for me to use it as an all-day vape, so I had to keep searching.  Next, A local B&M actually mixes custom juice, and is able to make what I was asking for...I've only sampled two of his juices, both fruit based, and both have the same effect as MBV...very harsh, irritating throat hit.  Not a fan, even after waiting his recommended steep time.

So here's my question.  Obviously, all juices are not created equal...but what differentiates one from another with regards to how smooth they are?  I'm not so much worried about the potency of the flavor...I just cannot stand vaping stuff that hurts my throat.  And from a Max VG/100% VG standpoint, I don't know the difference.  I've been lectured that there is no such thing as "100% VG," which MBV seems to corroborate by labeling their juice "Max" VG...but Good as Gold labels theirs as 100%, so it's rather confusing.  This is a topic that is very difficult to research, because most information is boiled down to a much more broad "VG vs. PG" argument.  I guess I'm just a damn picky vaper or something, because even though I thought I found my niche, I still am finding things I can't really enjoy vaping (from a comfort standpoint).

RE: Max VG vs. 100% VG - The Difference?
Hey Amsage. I'm the same way. Vaping 3mg nic and some juices I can't even vape because they are so harsh. Even if they are all the same pg/vg ratio or even all vg. So the conclusion I have come to is that sometimes it's just the flavor itself. Fruit flavors seem to be a little harsher. Then there are different vendors of nic/vg/pg. So depending on what vendor the juicmaker is getting their stuff from can make a difference. There can't be 100%vg in theory because some of the juice has to be nic and flavoring. Definately some nicotines are harsher than others. So you just have to try different ones and find the ones that work for you. I'll give you an example: If I get a juice that only comes in 0mg, 6mg, 12mg etc I will buy a bottle of 6mg and 0mg and mix them together to make a 3mg. Usually works. Recently I had Virgin Vapor organic original sin. I mixed the two together and took a hit. Could not hold it in at all ! Tried again...same thing. I have found steamjuice.us to be very tolerable on the throat. In particular Caramel cream. I've gone through 4 120's of this already. But you have to order it and when you get it it has to be steeped for like 2 weeks because it's made to order. You can order all Vg also. I get 70/30 vg/pg 3mg nic and it's wonderful. Also found Jimmy The juiceman Shurb and Creme Brulee to be easy on the throat but that one you have to get a 3mg and a 6mg and mix them together and I think it's 50/50. Best advice: Try juices at the local vape shop and when you find ones that you can vape get em!

Good deal, Breazy.  That was kind of what my intuition was telling me...just going to have to experiment with different flavors/combinations until I find what suits me.  Sucks, because I'm an impatient person haha, but at least thank god for sample sizes!

There aren't all that many flavours available in VG. It just doesn't carry flavour as well as PG. Try vaping straight VG with nicotine in VG added as required. You can add a drop or two of ethyl maltol solution to sweeten it if required. Some folks vape that exclusively. One famous British vaper at 54mg/ml nicotine.

But VG itself is sweet!

Horribly so IMO but you can vape just whatever strength of nic in VG - some prefer it a bit sweeter.

RE: Max VG vs. 100% VG - The Difference?
What really drives me nuts is when I order juice from the same vendor, and different batches have different effects on my ability to vape it.

For example (I won't put the website on blast or anything, I think they do make really good juice, and I'm just the pickiest vaper out there haha), I ordered a blueberry-custard type flavor from an online vendor.  I thought I'd found my all-day vape, and despite it being a little expensive, I ordered more.  I upped the size of the bottle, which made it come in plastic instead of glass (no idea if that affects things...I ordered a sample pack, which all came in plastic, from the same guy and they were fine), and when I tried to vape it, it was so harsh I couldn't even hit it.  I let it steep (which I've found doesn't really eliminate harsh throat hits), which didn't help much.  The venfor was really cool about it, he actually sent me a new free bottle...but it had the same effect.

I just don't get what makes that throat hit so harsh.  It's not a burnt "taste"...it's that when I inhale (I'm a lung hitter), it literally is irritating to the back of my throat, and makes it so I can't taste any flavor.

This was all with 100% vg and 3mg nic juice.  I feel like it just shouldnt be happening?
