MUUHAHAHAHAHHAAAA...
So tonight I was stricken with a bout of severe boredom.  The kind of boredom that leads college students to try Jackass stunts and petty dictators to declare pointless wars.  The kind of boredom that demands that you do something with it.

So I did.

A while back, i was told you can't build dual coils on the SubTank deck.  So of course, I went and built a dual coil build on it and ran it for a few days.  Well tonight I was in a chat room with a friend that's a 200 watt blow your batteries up cloud chaser, and she was talking about a quad coil build on her mech mod.

Heh.  Heheh.  HEHEHEHEHEHEEH.

SURE WHY NOT...

26awg Kanthol, 4 1.6 mm coils, 8 wraps each.  Loaded shotgun style side by side down low with the legs twisted together on one side of the screw, and again up top with the twisted legs on the other sides of each screw.  they should be 1 ohm each, totalling a .25 ohm build, which my i50 will fire.

The result wasn't as pretty as I would have liked; I kinda rushed it because I was just messing around.  But here it is, ladies and gentlemen; a quad-coil SubTank Mini deck build:

Hahaha - I can't believe I pulled that off.

So, how did it work, you ask?  Well - it turns out that that thick ass top cap on teh deck hit the ends of the top coils and altered the resistance and made everything not wanna work.  *sigh*.  So - it didn't work.

FOR NOW.

I will do this again with 28 awg Kanthol and 1.3 mm coils, AND I WILL PREVAIL.  With 28 awg wire I can use one less wrap each, plus I'll buy a fraction of a mm clearance (which was all I needed).  I estimate that I can get this to right about .3-.4 ohms, and that those coils will want 6-9 watts each, so 24-37 watts total, which my i50 will have no problem with.  Airflow will be difficult and might not be adequate, but we'll see.  If I'm precise with the build I think I can pull it off.

As for what to do with all those useless coils...  I took two off and set them aside, and reformed the legs on two others for a vertical dual coil build.  .5 ohms, fires great all the way up to about 26 watts.  Smile

RE: MUUHAHAHAHAHHAAAA...
That looks far too much like hard work to me Smile

If I was that bored I might wash the car - making quad minuscule coils for me would lead to something getting "maintained" with a sledgehammer.

Or an angle grinder

Or a chainsaw - which reminds me that I must go and get some fuel for it.

Found some barbed wire in the garage - going to make a coil - it should add a spike to the juice.

Having seen how ridiculously tiny the subtank mini deck is.. I'm jealous that you pulled that off Tongue

RE: MUUHAHAHAHAHHAAAA...
Why cringed Whiskey?

This was simply a "because nobody's done it and someone told me it can't be done" thing.

It measured out at .3 ohms and totally should have worked; I even loosened the offending top cap a smidge to get the clearance because I wanted to fire the thing at least a couple times, lol.  But it would fire for 2/10th's of a second and than drop to .1 ohms and the iStick would give me the finger.  So I need a tiny bit more resistance in the coils and to make them a tiny bit smaller, and it should work.  I'm really curious to see if I can build something like this and space it to allow enough airflow to make it worthwhile.

I just like messin' with things.  Dunno when I'm gonna have the time or inclination to try again, but it'll happen at some point, lol.

Because I am useless when it comes to coil making, and seeing that made me jelly.....LOL
