Hey, that's how clapton coils were originally made. People would take one of the unwrapped strings (B, E) and use it to wrap the thin wire around. Then they'd pull that out of the center, leaving a long thin spring of kanthal. Then feed a thin core through the middle. I believe Rip Trippers did it this way in an early build tutorial iirc. But then people quickly 
 realized that was way too much work and just started using the proper core to wrap in the first place.
