Let's talk squonking
What is squonking

To squonk you need a squonk mod or bottom feeder mod. This mod carries an e-liquid bottle onboard and allows you to directly feed e-liquid into the atomizer. No more need to drip into your RDA. The RDA has a bottom feeder pin that allows thew juice to soak into the coils. A squonk mod is self-contained, easy to operate, and a convenient way to use your RDA without dripping. Most squonkers build coils higher than in a standard RDA and most are after flavor.

I'm new to squonking. I'm already addicted and own three squonk mods. I have some higher end ones ...
Lost Vape Therion DNA 75w
VT inbox DNA 75w
Reo Grand mechanical box

The Reo is one of the first squonks made. It started the squonking frenzy. The Billet Box was also early in the game. But you do not have to spend a fortune on a squonk mod.
Here are some relatively cheap ones ...
Eleaf squeeze 50w
Steamcrave 60w
Kanger 160w and 60w

Most new squonks come with a bottom feeder atomizer. If you want to upgrade you have ...
DDP typhon
NarDa
Hadalay
Hobo 2.1
Nubbin
O-atty
Stumpy

These are just a few. Some attys you have may have BF pins available - Tsunami for instance. The allure of squonking is conatgious. There has been a sudden influx of new devices. Let's use this thread to review and recommend what attys and mods are worth looking into. Because it's awesome to squonk. Instead of trying to get a tank to mimic the flavor and vapor of an RDA, and still having to worry about wicking, you just use an RDA and have a freshly juiced coil whenever you want, at the squonk of a bottle. It's just taken a long for mod advancement to make squonkers attractive and usable for new vapers. Until recently squonking was for tootle puffers only. Well you still can tootle puff on squonks and I do but ypou can also build low resistance and blow clouds.

The Chinese ignored the niche US and European made bottom feeders until the cheap smokeless owl mod came out, sold all and then stopped production. Steam Crave and Geyscano came out with regulated squonkers but both had poor performance and were expensive for Chinese mods. Kanger took notice and the rest is history... we have Movkin disguisers, Gbox S100 and now all the high end Lost Vape and Hcigar joining the game. Because we now have temp control and regulated squonks the game has changed. I never owned a Reo until recently. I never even really looked at squonks. But the convenience of a tank and the performance of an RDA has me a believer.

So guys lets share pics and stories and talk squonking! I know I'm a bit of a newb at it so help me out.

RE: Let's talk squonking
I have been Toodle Puffing for quite a while now - it was Don who introduced me to it and it is one of the best things that happened with regard to vaping - it was squonking that got me into dripping and RDA's - Don has been squonking for a long time.
My gear is 2 Sbody squonkers - one is a genuine Toodle Puffer that goes to all of 15W and is powering a Tobeco Torque b/f RDA which is cheap, has a really tight draw, 2 posts and I build a 1.5ohm coil for it and vape at around 10.5W - the flavour is brilliant and it is amazing how much vapour you get when you wick it well. It has a 8ml squeeze bottle so it lasts a long time when you Toodle Puff.[Image: tongue.gif]
My other squonker is the big brother of the first one - it goes to 50W and has a 10ml squeeze bottle. This runs a Malstrom b/f RDA - also with a tight draw and has a coil that I build at around 1.2ohm vaping at around 12W - if I wick it well it will vape beautifully at under 11W so that the flavour is even better. It is quite difficult to get b/f RDA's that have a really tight draw so I will look at the ones Paul mentioned but from experience the draw will not be tight enough for me - I do not like polluting the vapour with air[Image: smile.gif]. It is a great way to vape and I highly recommend you guys try it.

RE: Let's talk squonking
Can't beat a good squonk.

Currently I own several squonk mods

An Reo Grand clone with a Chalice 3 on top. The flavour can't be beaten IMO. I think Eddie would love this one.
A Smokeless Owl - the first Chinese (and affordable) squonk mod.
A DNA200 that has a Zenith 2.5 with BF pin on it
A Chinese 60W TC squonker with some annoying bugs like resetting to 60W every time you turn your back on it.
A Kanger Dripbox with currently a drilled Hobo 3 on it. Thanks Gently!

There are Canadian stores selling squonks. But the best way to get Chinese squonks is still from China. 3Fvape is a reliable source as is Fastech. The more expensive squonks - Lost Vape/Hcigar are available here as is the Eleaf squeeze. But the esoteric squonks made from wood and custom built are found only online and there are a lot of them. I've never seen a Billet Box or Reo in a store. But I've seen people vaping them who acquired them online and often from Facebook sites. Reo has it's own site. Squonks sell fast. The Reo clones sold out quickly online so I ended up with an authentic.

RE: Let's talk squonking
Problem with a lot of shops is that they still see squonking as high-end and expensive. And judge their markups accordingly.

Billet boxes are hugely expensive though the initial frenzy seems to have died out on them - originally they used cartomisers in a tank. Cartomisers these days are hard to find and their only use IMO is attaching to tube mods so you can chuck them up in a drill for polishing.

It is only within the last 18 months or so that the Chinese manufacturers have seen their opportunity. Things like Sunboxes and Reo mods were ludicrously (IMO) expensive and BF atties equally exorbitant. And a lot of them weren't very good.

A nice little custom DNA75 squonk mod would be nice. Something about the size of a Wismec RX75 for preference that took a standard 10ml bottle.

None of my BF drippers would handle the full output of a DNA200 - nor would my lungs, so a smaller and lighter unit with much less power would be right up my street.

I wish someone would make a BF Derringer atty. Might have to get the 510 drilled.

RE: Let's talk squonking
Thee is a BF stumpy Don. And a lowpro. Yep some squonks are really expensive. I'm quite happy with my two DNA 75 squonks - they are perfect for size and power as I'm vaping below 40 watts. I saw a Billet /box yesterday as it happens. The guy took it to the B+M and was having some issues. The owner was trying to help him out. I thought - 400 dollars for a DNA40 with issues. Wow. Still the Rev 4 is hugely popular and sought after online. There are collectors of squonks and everyday users of squonks. I'm starting to see the difference now. My B+M happens to sell three or four different squonks. Most are DNAs but he has a mechanical squonk as well. The Eleaf squeeze sold out in one week.
I see the issue with the cheaper squonks that come with attys is the atty. You pretty much want to replace it. I'm not using any attys that came with my mods.

RE: Let's talk squonking
Round here the B&Ms would look blankly at me and ask what a squonker was. Some of them seem to regard the eGo/CE4 combo as being the height of technology.

RE: Let's talk squonking
One of my local shops has stocked about a dozen Rio authentic mods for as long as I can remember... The same dozen or so, mind you, not re-orders. Shows how popular it is in my area.

The Kanger has picked up a bit more steam though, there are 2-3 shops nearby that sell it.

I've been wondering if a Phenotype-L could be drilled out for squonking. The two post design leaves easy access to the 510 pin, since the posts are offset from the center. If I could get a Phenotype-L drilled out, I'd be tempted to build my own squonk DNA200 box. It'd be huge, with a large bottle and a gigantic LiPo, but it would be awesome.
