I don't think so as you want the temperature measurement as close to the coil as possible.

But this may be my failure of imagination.

Ah, you snuck in like a ninja and posted while I was typing. Tongue

I could see an adapter working. Something like the 510-eGo adapters, but with a built-in thermistor to read temperature? It probably wouldn't be as accurate as the mods with a thermistor built-in, since it would have to read the temperature through the bottom of the original 510 atty. But it could at least be used in power mode to connect 510 atties to the new system.

RE: It's time for better TC
Sorry for the rapid-fire posts, but I've got another tangential idea. Would it be possible to have interchangeable LiPo batteries for mods? One of my main complaints with current vaping technology is that we rely on 18650s or 26650s, which are unsafe if used improperly. Of course, LiPos aren't 100% safe if you abuse them either, but they have higher amp limits and are inherently better suited to the job (by my limited understanding, at least). So why can't we have mods with a thermistor in the atty, a chip that can read the temperature from that thermistor, and a battery compartment suited to small LiPos with a plug like those used in RC cars for interchangeable LiPos?

I've often wondered about that myself. There are a couple of mods with (proprietary) interchangeable lipos. The nice thing about 18/26650s is that they are standardised and therefore way cheaper. It'd be nice to get some lipos in multiple 18650 form factor with decent balance charging built in - the DNA200 is half way there with a good balance charging circuit built in.

We need some sort of standard for the packs then they might well cost less than good 18650s.

The ability to swap them out would be nice indeed.

Two different discussions really. My 510 suggestions are to enable the use of the current devices. A new adapter with multiple inputs would open up an entirely new world, but that world immediately requires all new equipment.

The now huge installed base is going to be a problem. Yes, some sort of adapter would be nice. I've no doubt at all that if some sort of new standard emerges there will be a lot of adapters sold. I think some sort of temperature sensing built into an atty cap might work for a lot of "legacy" kit.

Frankly I think they made a mistake introducing TC at all on the old platform. It has led to confusion, frustration, and disappointment in the technology, not to mention having to be mindful of what metals are safe with what methods, etc. They should have introduced TC on a completely different, more robust and reliable platform in the first place.

RE: It's time for better TC
Agreed entirely!

It would have been nice if someone had really thought through the various issues.

I suppose the resulting device would likely have been hideously expensive.

The DNA200 is (IMO) the best solution to the issue but it is still kludgy.

...hideously expensive for early adopters - tech always is.

Remind one liberal per day, that laws affect only the law-abiding.

Too true!

But I fear that the Ego type devices own the market now - and that may not change as they seem to be "good enough". Which might mean that the better stuff for our purposes never drops much in price.

Unfortunately...
