IT HAS BEGUN - iStick 50 auto firing like crazy.
Well, this is karma for arguing with all the people talking trash on my beloved i50.  A couple weeks ago it started acting up - and then it started behaving again.  And last night, it started REALLY acting up, and today it's been horrible.

I'm pretty handy at fixing stuff, and I'm past any kind of warranty, so I'm just gonna take the little asshole apart and see what I can see.  Either I'll get it fixed or I'll need a new mod tomorrow, lol.  Update to come.

RE: IT HAS BEGUN - iStick 50 auto firing like crazy.
Huh.  Well, I didn't see the buildup of gunk in there that people talk about - not surprising, as I've never had a major juice leak - so that wasn't it.

The button itself (not the plastic piece you push, I mean inside) has a very positive click when you push it, and springs back strongly.  The return action on the exterior button is supplied by a silicone piece around the fire button that isn't.  But I doubt that that piece being weak would be enough for an auto-fire - the actual button on the circuit board requires too much force to push.  So I started looking at the contacts on the button itself.

I didn't separate the battery and circuit board from the top cover this time around as this was just a quick peek - but I want to later.  In the meantime - there are two small connections on the bottom of the button itself that I *suspect* may be the culprit.  They're bare copper connections, very close together, and very close to things around them.  I poked and prodded and made sure nothing was touching them.  Reassembled it and so far, it's working like new.  I suspect that some tape or something in there was somehow bridging that little gap.  I also *very gently* pried the button assembly forward ever so slightly in case it was making contact with something on the circuit board behind it - couldn't see in that far, but it could be a thing.  Anyway - whatever I did seems to be working for now.

I'll keep an eye on it and see how long it lasts.

RE: IT HAS BEGUN - iStick 50 auto firing like crazy.
This morning it's behaving, but it's like - trying to act up?  It keeps starting to misfire and then stopping.  So whatever I did helped for 15 hours, but wasn't permanent.

When I have a little time and wherewithal, I will break this sucker down and solve this for real.  Maybe today.  Maybe Thursday. Probably not tomorrow though, lol.  We'll see.

Hope you guys get this resolved and post about it. I'm almost afraid your going to have to solder a new button into the board if you can get it. I could be wrong though.

Hopefully you can take lots of pictures as you take it apart - it'd be great to have a guide for anyone with the same problem in the future.

I hate taking progress pictures.  I suspect it's a generational thing, lol.  But I'll take one for the team on this one, once I've figured out the issue.  I have a theory, and I think this issue can be solved once and for all with a little piece of electrical tape.  We shall see.

RE: IT HAS BEGUN - iStick 50 auto firing like crazy.
Well, I'm sad to report that my theory was incorrect, and that furthermore, the issue is not something that people are going to want to try at home.

The internal firing button has a defect of some kind internally.  And it's a more or less solid state unit that would be at once very difficult to remove from the assembly at all, and even if you got it free - it clearly isn't intended to ever come apart after being manufactured.  Replaced maybe, but not serviced for whatever is causing the internal short.

With the entire assembly out of the case and fiddled with, this button seems to have some kind of internal inconsistency that causes it to fire with very little pressure - like even the weight of the external button in some cases - under certain circumstances.  Said circumstances seem to depend on temperature and humidity, getting significantly worse with significant increases in either.

Bummer.  :-(
