RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Chuck did you post a pic of your Claptons? I just scrolled through the last few pages and didn't see one, couldn't remember if you showed us or just described them.

But yeah, you have every right to be proud of your Claptons! It's a difficult coil to build, and merely the fact that they worked is impressive since a lot of folks wouldn't have the patience or skill to make them at all.

And honestly, fused Claptons aren't much harder than regular Claptons. I just take a long piece of the core wire and fold it over into a loop, which I thread into some spinners on one end then into the drill on the other end. The twisted wrap wire actually makes it easier to build than normal fused Claptons too, because it's thicker than a single strand and easier to keep it from overlapping while wrapping.

I like to show off my pretty builds, but I don't often make things that are super difficult. With this build, the hardest part is just twisting that 32ga, it's very thin and I had to twist a long piece of it so it's a bit difficult to keep from breaking it. But once that part's over, the rest is a piece of cake Tongue

2x24ga core, twisted 32ga wrap, 316L SS FC. 0.08 ohms, I'm 99% sure this is the lowest resistance I've ever built. I couldn't get a good pic of the color, it either didn't show the color at all or looked really fake, but basically it's a rainbow and I have no idea how that happened.

Stainless steel does that when you heat it. It goes a nice blue eventually - you can see this on many motorcycle exhaust headers.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Have you guys seen the Vape3D clapton jig? It's basically just a spool holder and a clamp with a 3d printed part, but it sure makes claptons and fused claptons look easy.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
no pics , i do have camera but its really stubborn and old . then comes the obnoxious process of cropping on the ps3 .
i have built fused claptons , but keeping them above .2 and able to fire well in the d2 is a trick i have yet to master . even with single core im not quite hitting my target resistance . practice practice

Dogs have owners , Cats have staff .

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I don't think that would work well for fused Claptons, Eggza. The clamp trick (which is basically all that is) works very well for regular Claptons, but it doesn't work for FCs. The clamp can end up grabbing the core and twisting it, making a huge mess.

It could work, I'm just pessimistic since I've tried something very similar before to devastating results.

Sorry for cluttering the thread with these... it's really not even an endorsement, but:

Oh cool! No need to apologize for cluttering the thread, it's always worth it when someone proves me wrong Tongue It's cool that it works with Fused Claptons, that would be a really handy tool.

Kills all the fun though. It's like having a chauffeur driven ferrari.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
just checked out some reviews on the tool , it looks to take some getting used to . one of the vids showed errors like back wrapping , but was overall a positive review.
