RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Oh thanks I never would have thought of that!

Wait wait wait wait wait....

If you've never used a spinner, then how the hell do you keep the core from bending and screwing up when you make longer strands? Especially at the gauges you use, man I've never been able to make longer than about 4" with 30g core, 5" with 28g, and about 7-8" is my max with anything else.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I go with about 9", I find that easy to measure out, unless it's really cold Wink

It'll only twist drill side of the wire by the same amount each revolution.. when I'm done I just hold the end of the wire and reverse the drill until it's near enough.
To keep the ends in check I use one 18" wire and fold it, putting the two ends in the chuck. It opens out spherically under rotation and keeps a nice balance.
I stop the wrap about 20mm from the end. When I coil it I put my finger through the loop created to pull it tight around the former and finalise the straightening.
If it's separate cores I'm using then I tape the ends together.

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!

I remade the coil I posted the other day, using Mike's suggestion to make one long strand of FC and then making two coils out of it so it's much more consistent. It actually vapes a lot better now, I didn't think it would make that much difference. Anyway it's 2x 26g core with twisted 38g wrap. I'm proud of me.

I actually used a keychain as a spinner since I didn't have a chance to get some real spinners to work with.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Thanks mate! I watched a YouTube video showing how to make your coils colorful like that, and it really made it more vibrant than before. I'm still nowhere near the Instagram coil pros with their bright blue and yellow coils, but it's fun and I'm getting there Wink

I think the thing that made the most difference was washing the coils thoroughly after installing them. I put dish soap on a toothbrush and scrubbed them for a minute or two to get all the oil from my hands and any dust particles off, then fire it on very low power (like 10-20W) while adjusting the coils to try to get rid of hotspots, then once it's about perfect I cranked it up to 95W and fired it red hot, when it cooled it had pretty colors! I think coils are magic.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Has anybody tried the so-called "Scottish Roll wick" technique? Supposedly, you can stuff a ton of cotton into your build, super tight, and it works really well with no dry hits and holds more juice, etc. It seems so counterintuitive, it's exactly the opposite of what you learn when you're building coils, but I've seen a lot of places saying it's awesome. I just hoped somebody here has tried it and can give me an opinion before I go do it myself and waste a bunch of cotton or something.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I use Cotton Bacon v2 and I use what I call a Swiss Roll. Since CB2 comes off easily in strips, I just take it and roll it lightly a few times between my hands. It seems to do a great job for me. I call it a Swiss Roll because it's looser, like a swiss roll snack cake. Geez I'm clever, no?

Swiss bacon Tongue

Not tried anything like it myself... I just whack some cotton in there and if it's a bit tight I pull it back and forth (The cotton!) until it loosens up a bit. Might be tempted to give it a go though now you've mentioned it Big Grin
