Inhale as much gold as you like! Gonna be expensive! Gold plating vaping wire might be a good thing.

If you really want to knock yourself out, go for platinum Claptons. But never blow a coil as they would cost rather a lot!

Let's just say I'd be more concerned about nickel than silver.

It is possible to poison yourself with silver.

My late father had to do a course in forensic pathology in order to be able to function as a solicitor (I think that is a lawyer in American). In his day, the course was run in the mortuary of the local hospital at 8am on a Monday morning. And the guy teaching it was a real enthusiast. One morning they turn up and the guy is smiling broadly and says, "I think this guy poisoned himself with silver nitrate. I've never seen one of those before" And in front of a class of baby solicitors proceeds to remove the guys intestines and disappear with them. He reappears a minute or two lately holding up thirty feet of intestines which had turned black and triumphantly announced, "My first silver poisoning"

TBH I'd not worry much - they coils will discolour very quickly, I'd guess they'd turn black quickly. But as long as the surface doesn't pit (you're going to need a good magnifier to check this or way better eyesight than mine) then I'd not worry about them. Take it to extremes and you could turn blue...

Silver is not harmless but will probably be excreted from the body in time. A few nanograms of it are not going to do anything. 

Just don't make polonium Claptons - those would be bad for you.

The melting point of pure silver is 961.8 degrees C. Those coils were HOT.

It's probably Sterling Silver wire as pure silver is very, very soft. Sterling silver melts around 900C.

Gold melts at 1064C so shouldn't melt quite as fast.

Maybe don't dry burn it?

I shouldn't have.. kicking myself a lot for that! I just couldn't resist seeing it glow  Wonder how well it works for tc??

Gold plated kanhal (last paragraph) has been on my mind for a long time.. too scared to find out how much the stuff is though.

This is your fault, Mike... 


Getting me all excited about making silly coils, I decided to have some fun and just go a little crazy, and long story short... 

This is two strands of twisted 32ga, a 26/38 clapton, and a strand of 24ga for good measure, all twisted together into a marvelous heap of metal. In case anyone lost count, that's 7 strands of kanthal. 

I made a Clapton with a 26ga core and 38ga wrapped around, then twisted 32ga, then folded the twisted 32 in half and twisted it again, then took that Clapton and double-twisted wire and added a strand of normal 24ga and twisted those three strands together. About 50 ft of kanthal all told, and I ended up with about 6 inches of this madness. 

The next step was wrapping it five times around a 2.5mm post, but this stuff is so springy it ended up with a 3.0mm inner diameter. (I knew it would expand, that's why I wrapped it on a smaller post) 

And here's the end result after dry firing:



And a pic of it heating up. Is it just me, or does it kind of look like lava cooling? 



In case anyone cares, that's on a Mephisto, which has become my go-to RDA for silly builds since it has huge post holes and a bigger chamber than the Dark Horse so I can fit those big coils in there. 

Oh and it vapes like a champ, chucking giant clouds at 70W as it comes out to around 0.3 ohms. Buy really, the vapor production is secondary, the main thing is HOW F**KING COOL THIS THING LOOKS!!! 

Edit: I think I'm gonna call it "the Necronom coil." Something about it reminds me of H.R. Giger's artwork. (the movie "Alien" was based on his painting "Necronom IV" and he did a ton of biomechanical surrealist work) 

Or maybe I'll just call it the Giger, name it on honor of the guy. His paintings are awesome if you like dark sci-fi.
