Nah, nichrome has a much higher melting point and no leeching

I use nichrome in mechs do it's ability to heat faster. In regulated boxes kanthal is fine. The coils look almost black after heating, but under the photo lights they look that very pretty blue.

Nichrome wire is most likely what you have had in every electric heater. AFAIK it is cheaper than Kanthal in bulk.

The chromium content will form a hard and passive layer of chromium oxide which is pretty stable. Get it to high enough temperatures in air and you can form chromium VI which is not good stuff to have around. However, you will have ignited the wicks and the juice long before then.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I might try to get some nichrome just to play around with. You said it's stronger, would that make it better than kanthal for higher resistance builds at high wattage? The reason I ask, I've got a God Mod 180 which I've never been able to use at the full 180W since it only fires 0.4 ohms or higher, but to get that high resistance I have to use thinner kanthal which makes it weak, or build giant coils that won't fit in my atties. So many nichrome could get me there with a stronger coil...? Either way I'll probably get some just to have some fun with.

It's lower resistance so no, it'll be worse than kanthal in the way you want to use it. The coils will be bigger to get a .4
It's physically stronger so your fc's should be easier Wink

You'll be welding it before it gives off enough cr vi to worry about Wink3

(Found a new wink, thought I'd test drive it)

I was looking for an alternative to my gentle coils but with higher resistance.. it worked out well, weighing in at .16 for the pair Big Grin
Flavour needs to mature for a few hours because it pretty crap straight off the bat. They're not as angry as the others, no popping and crackling just a smooth fizz.
Currently in a velocity on my wismec at 100w, but they'd also work well in a mech.

*I made way too much wire.. someone's lucky day Wink
