RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I have a hook screwed into a board on one end, and the other end is duct taped to my cordless drill. Crude but effective. I couldn't do a pliers twist.

Grip the end of the wire with about 10mm sticking out of the pliers, twist your hand so you put a 90° bend in the wire, hold tight.
I call it the "grip 'n' twist" manoeuvre Sarcastic
with some thicker wire or more complex builds it may be necessary to twist the 10mm sticking out while holding the wire

Or a big loop of wire in the chuck, put a screwdriver in and pull it tight. Rev the drill until the wire snaps if it's just a twisted your after

My drill is a quick-change and doesn't have a chuck so I tape it. Yeah, but it works. Here's the loop and the two wires side-by-side for comparison.

Sideways hook pic. I don't actually hang it from the ceiling.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I live in an apartment so I don't really have a lot of room for putting hooks up to twist, I like the "grip and twist maneuver" I never would have thought of that but that would probably work well for me. I tried to twist 3 wires all at once the other day, I got them all to hold tight in the drill but there was no way in hell they were staying out on the pliers lol. Does it make much difference to twist 3 simultaneously, versus 2+1?

3 at a time if you don't align them exactly will twist with knots. If you do 2ft of it you'll easily get enough for 2 coils even with knots.
2+1 is easy, and works really well. It also has slightly lower resistance, but not so you'd notice it overly, maybe 5-10w differnce

That makes sense, if you twist all 3 at once you'd have a longer 3rd strand than if you twist 2+1 so slightly higher resistance.
I just got a wild hair and decided to twist 4 strands of 30ga, just to see what would happen. 6 wraps, 3mm, single coil cane out to 0.9 ohms. I'm hitting it at 33.3W (5.4V) and it's really smooth, good flavor and for some reason, it seems easier to tell when I need to drip again, it's like I can tell it's getting a little less thick clouds and flavor, but no dry hits, I'm not sure if that's the coil or just my mind playing tricks on me. I'm thinking later I might try again and make a dual coil build with the same 4-strand 30ga twist, should come out to about 0.5 ohms which I could push up to 50-60W or so. Pics coming, once Photobucket stops being stupid.

By the way, that hook is on a small stake, like a tomato stake. It doesn't need much pressure and can be the size of a ruler and still work fine. I like that there are many ways to skin a cat with vaping and its' associated tasks.

I just wind off whatever amount I want to twist, loop it around the hook halfway then roll it over the drill bit and secure with tape. Takes literally seconds and is, so far, quite uniform and repeatable.

The most ghetto I've seen was with nothing but a shoe!
Loop the wire through a lace hole, twist the ends round a finger and spin the shoe..
No matter how you get to the end result, getting the result is what counts Wink

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I find the easiest way to build a coil is to PM Mike. It only takes a few seconds to get a real professional looking coil. I manage to get both twisted and claptons built with this tool (not by this tool - Mike is not a tool).
