This ad is probably very high purity niobium wire.

Available in Worcester, Mass, a good stop on one of my bike trips down to the cape.... so I gotta ask Don, not overly expensive considering that I can wrap 2 decent coils with 8"-9" of wire - what is the benefit of using Niobium vs Ni or SS? Taste? Longevity?

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I'll need to look up the electrothermal stuff but expect it to last forever. Steam Engine's calculator has an entry for an unspecified composition niobium alloy. I'll look up its resistivity to see what gauge would be most useful. I've no idea of its TCR but will try to find out tonight.

The generic alloy on steamengine has it at huge resistance! Even if they're only half right it's a good alternative Good
Now to get me some..

While on the subject,  I picked up some 904l wire.. I'll give it a go later Smile

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
In pure form it is more conductive than titanium but less conductive than nickel (But then so is just about everything else.). At really low temperatures it is a superconductor, so don't try vaping at -264C when it transitions to a superconductor.

It has a lower temperature coefficient of resistance than titanium, but more than SS so should be usable in TC but you are going to need a DNA chipset and a lot of faffing most likely to make it work.

It anodises in air at temperatures above 200C and produces pretty colours.

I reckon around 0.5mm diameter (24 gauge) should be usable.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Should be fine.

It isn't as low resistance as SS so 22ga ought to be usable.
