RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Thought I'd have a play with the tsuka coil idea for my inlay entry to the coil challenge.. (probably will still preserve with it) but I didn't have any 3x1 ribbon left so I went with all I had, 8x1.
Totally f**ked it up but I thought I'd share what I ended up with here. Over twisting the ribbon creates a tube.. I only got enough useable length for four wraps but I think it looks awsome! It's sort of a double twisted tsuka, though it comes out perfectly square wrapped over two 26g cores.

I'll tidy it up when I install it Wink

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
It was a dual core 26g 316l @.11. A tad low for a single coil but I'd think a 6 wrap of the same in nichrome would be good for a dual coil setup around the same value. I'd love to have seen the colours a ss ribbon would have made too.. hmm, might be my next build Yes

*edit. Guess I beat the 'builders block' then Biggrin, any luck with yours ww?

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I don't get builder's block. Because I'm not a builder.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Okay question for the builders - what is the advantage or disadvantage to build using multiple types of wire?

I have several gauges of A1, Ni80 and 1000' of 36g SS (on order) just trying to determine if I should be ordering SS in 24/26g.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
I love dissimilar core wires, most of my builds have them. You can raise resistance by using one kanthal core instead of two stainless, same in reverse, you can adjust ramp up, manipulate thermal efficiency, get better vapour and/or flavour production.. there's a lot that can be beneficial from mixing it up. Of course it all comes down to the build in the end, some win some won't.
I've got a tripple core (2down1up) fc comprised of two n80 and one A1 wrapped in 316l in the goon atm and I'm absolutely loving it!
