RE: How do you dip yer wick?
This fused Clapton is a great flavor coil and very easy to build/install. What are the advantages of more intricate coils, like an alien or stapled, etc?

Imo

Alien is a fused clapton that looks nice, it's almost impossible to do one in 40g wrap. I guess spending long enough you could but total pia!
Stapled are one up from a fused, giving stronger flavour and equal cloud. Ramp up is good too. They're four time as hard to do as a standard fc so I don't use them much.

Can't say I've tried every configuration of coil but almost all of them done well are an improvement on a plain wire. Using bespoke wire you can tailor the vape to suit you, all you need do is experiment Smile

Alright, so can the Daedelus make one? Or should I say, how do you make one? If I can do it on the jig, I'll go for it. I'm a simpler-the-better kind of guy. If it's a P-I-A, I'm O-U-T.

No, stapled. Not interested in alien.

Ah.
They're all about getting the core ribbons lined up. 6 strands of .8×.1 works well, as does 8 strands of .4×.1
They're an ass to keep in line, even to line them up in the chuck when it's tightened makes me pull my hair out! Once you've done it they're plain sailing. I have no clue if it'll work in your cheat box, how you'll keep the spinning end together isn't something I can envisage..

Cheat box, miracle worker, call it what you want. Anyway, it has a nifty little attachment that lets you feed the cores separately to tighten in the chuck. Comes with a clamp and a swivel too.

Check it out... although I know you won't buy one.

Your right.. I won't.. unless you pull off easy staple coils, then I could be persuaded Smile

Remember, when you wrap it into coils the ribbon should be vertical.. which is a mission in its own right!

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
A lot of people use masking tape to keep the ribbon wire lined up for staples. The problem there is that you need to pull the tape off as you go along, since you obviously don't want it wrapped into the coil. And it's a good idea to wash the wire with soapy water when you're done to get any tape residue off before wrapping the coils.

Just my two cents worth, but I mostly agree with Mike. Personally, I don't think staples are worth the effort, but if you can get it to work in your jig then that would really be something. For my time and effort, fused Claptons are the best flavor for the effort. Especially if you can use a twisted wrap wire in that jig. If you have an empty spool, you could make up about 15-20' of twisted 40g easily, just fold about 30-40' of 40g in half and drill forever, then put it in the empty spool to use in the jig. It's practically as easy as a normal FC but the twisted wrap really adds a lot in the way of flavor.

RE: How do you dip yer wick?
Yeah I got to agree about the Alien and the Stapled, lots of work for very little gain, but there is a gain but ever so slight. For me I stick with 317L SS fused Clapton's, quick and easy to knock out. I'll even knock out 34x2/40 for my Tootie Puffers but mostly stick with 28g, 29g and 30g for my core and 38g for my wrapping wire.

Works for me Wink
