Hello
Hi Guys,
I've been a smoker for 38 years now, and after a recent health scare (I was eventually given a clean bill of health) it appears I have got away with it, so I thought now was the time to try to finally kick the habit altogether, since I've effectively been given a clean slate.
I have just ordered an Aspire Zelos 2.0 Kit with the Nautilus 2 Tank, along with a few 1.8 coils and various Liquids. I have browsed these forums and other sources and I'm thinking Nic Salts are the way forward for me, since I am a heavy smoker and really do need that nic hit. Are there any other former smokers here who have any pointers/opinions/advice which might help me, never done this vaping before, and tbh its all a little daunting, so any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Graham.

RE: Hello
Welcome aboard Spiny. Most of us are ex-smokers, all of us were once brand new to vaping so we understand where you are and how you feel. Ask anything at all; there are definitely no stupid questions.

Regarding salts, the thing found most appealing about them is the lack of throat harshness compared to freebase nic. If the throat hit is a bother, then salts can be a good alternative. But it may be best to start out with freebase and see how that works first. Especially since you're a heavy smoker and accustomed to the throat hit.

Welcome to TVF Graham. Not all, but most of us here are former smokers.

I know the Zelos and Nautilus. A really good start. You mentioned ordering online, have you had the chance or do you have the chance to visit a local vape shop? I ask because nicotene levels vape preference is different for everyone. What nic level did you order?

RE: Hello
Hi Spiny - welcome to the forum - well done on attempting to stop the cigs. The set up you have is perfect for mouth to lung vaping - which is how you would have smoked. You have done really well choosing the gear you settled on - it is about the best possible start for you. Set the power at around 9W with the 1.8ohm coil. Other coils that would suit would be the 1.6 and the 1.2. The 1.6ohm at around 10W and the 1.2 at around 11W. If you can get it the best juice ratio PG/VG is 50/50 but do not go above 60% VG as the juice will be too thick for the coil to absorb easily. No doubt you will have more questions so do not hesitate to ask - there are many great guys here willing to help who have lots of knowledge and experience. Not only have you picked the best gear, you have also picked the best forum. Keep in touch - there is lots of fun here too - which you will see if you read through the sections. Best of luck and enjoy your vaping.

RE: Hello
Hi and welcome Graham.

I can't add anything to what's been said above.

Do try out lots of flavours and nicotine strengths to see what works for you and keeps you away from the stinky things.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

As a starting point I bought some 20mg Salts, along with some 16mg and 18mg Freebase Liquids.
I'm not expecting to "hit the nail on the head" with those selections, but it's my best educated (googled) guess at what I might require, luckily I pass a vape shop every day in my lunch hour, so I can easily get my hands on different liquids at short notice.

RE: Hello
If the PG / VG ratios of all those juices you bought are the same, you'll really notice a difference in throat hit between the salts and freebases. Honestly, the starting points for nic I usually recommend (which believe me are only a guideline, not a hard rule) are generally much lower. Reason being, the lowest you can get yourself sorted to on the nic is the best way to do it in my opinion. Nic is not the cancer causing, evil agent that makes smoking so harmful, but it still raises blood pressure and some other things, so I tend to suggest getting yourself to the lowest % you can abide. But, of course- even high nic levels in vaping is still magnitudes safer than smoking, so it really is 'do what you dig' when it comes to vaping. Any vaping is better than all smoking.

You have selected well and that is a great start. I was a 35 year smoker and tried 6mg nic but quickly switched to 3mg although I have since gone as low as 1mg I tend to prefer/enjoy 3mgs.

Access to a local shop is great so you can sample more juices without ordering blindly online.
