That's right Bob.

The amount of flavouring depends on the flavour, but most of my usual ones I use at 20%. But I like 80-% VG juices so the only PG in my mixes is what the flavours are dissolved in.

If you mix at 50:50 PG/VG then you can get away with less flavouring as PG carries flavour better. Start at 15% for a 50:50 mix.

OK great. I'm about to pull the trigger on some PG/VG and flavorings, syringes, and 30ml bottles. All told, a small investment compared to purchasing the same volume from a seller. Here's hoping I'm not a total screw up.

So, how do you mix it? Just shake it like wildman? I'm not using any nic in case that's any kind of factor.

RE: Getting Started With Mixing
The nic tends to add a sort of peppery flavour.

The way I mix mine is always that the flavours go in first. Then I add PG/VG till the bottle is around half full. Then I give it a good shake then add the rest of the PG/VG. I usually cap the bottle and stand it in some hot water in an ultrasonic cleaner for 15 minutes.

After that I give it another shake and stick it on top of the fridge behind the microwave till I get around to using it. The youngest juice I'm vaping at the moment was made 7 weeks ago.

Juice does not keep for ever, I'd dispose of anything over two-three years old.

The vanilla flavour that is the basis of my usual mixes has a shelf-life of a bit over a year and a half according to the bottles it comes in.

On the whole, I prefer to store mixed up juice in a cool dark place.

The page is difficult to read due to font colors, but eJuice Me Up is a mixing calculator, if you need/want one. It is at the bottom of the list. You can use the pre-installed recipes or save your own.

Do you need a fancy mixer/shaker or can you get away with vigorous human shaking?

RE: Getting Started With Mixing
I just use my hands. Using something like an Erlenmeyer flask for mixing then decanting into bottles would make for better mixing.

The ultrasonic cleaner will add a bit of shaking but not a huge amount.

If I could justify the money and find space in my kitchen for one I'd get a heated magnetic stirrer and use a couple of burettes for measuring out flavours.

I could buy a DNA200 mod for the sort of money that would cost.

But I don't have the space and couldn't justify the money...

RE: Getting Started With Mixing
Hi, all! I am new to mixing my own juices so don't be surprised if I am full of questions.  I currently have th following (and where I bought them) on hand:

From MtBaker.com:
6 mg unflavored solution 80 VG/20 PG (2 8 oz. bottles)
Cheshire Cat - unsweetened
Maui Sunrise - unsweetened

DIYvapeflavors.com (all unsweetened except for the Sweetener)
Double Chocolate
Cheesecake
Cappuccino
Sweetener

ecigexpress.com
FlavorArt Tiramsu

Several years ago, I mixed my own juice but all supplies were purchased through Totally Wickec and I used only Decadent Vapors flavors. Now, there is no one in the US who carries the Decandent Vapors so I am experimenting with several suppliers/flavor companies.  Unlike Decadent Vapors which were sweetened, the ones I have bought so far are all unsweetened hince the sweetener which is basically sucralose.

My three questions are:

1. Can organic sweeteners be used such as Steviaclear sweetener?  The one I purchased contains purified water and organic stevia leaf extract.
2. Can anyone point me in the direction of any pre-sweetened non-nicotine flavors?  I have to admit that Tiramasu has been my favorite when vaping.
3. I am finding that the 6 mg nicotine juice premixed with 20 PG/80 VG seems a bit thick, so should I wish to thin it, what is best to use?

Any suggestions?

TIA!

RE: Getting Started With Mixing
I think some folks have used Stevia based sweeteners. Ethyl maltol is likely cheaper and is very widely used. About one drop (0.05ml) per 20ml is a good place to start. It is very easy to make stuff disgusting by over sweetening.

You can add up to 10% or so distilled (not deionised or tap) water to thin the juice a bit. Or just mix at 50:50. Personally I prefer the "feel" of thicker juices but I don't use tanks much any more.

Thanks, Don!  I will look for the ethyl maltol.  The sweetener from DIY is actually nothing more than sucralose which is Splenda.  Where in the US is the best place to purchase - online?

RE: Getting Started With Mixing
Afraid I'm a long way from the US so have no idea - hopefully one of the US based folks will come in here. 18sixfifty of this parish used to make and sell juice so will know.
