Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
I'm thinking of building a seriously powerful mod using a LiPo capable of 350A which should be safe with an 0.012 ohm atomiser. (The burst rate is around 750A or 3kW)

At that power level I imagine you'd need to be a fire eater - that is 1.4kW potentially into the juice. Dead shorts become more "interesting" when you could melt the atomiser. And 300A fuses tend to be the size of breeze blocks.

The same sorts of issues arise with 26650 mods, though not to silly extents.

But the real issue is that measuring resistances reliably and accurately below around 0.25 ohm is really out of the league of multimeters, it isn't what they are for unless your multimeter cost more than your car.

I just don't trust the cheap screw your atomiser into them devices. They may provide two decimal places but I do doubt their reliability. And accuracy. And usefulness.

So I went to eBay and saw a bunch of lab-grade devices for hundreds of pounds. Nope, not playing. A few electronic modules that looked dubious but were at least only the price of a clone atty.

Then I found this gadget. It's 4 wire so is at least trying. TBH I'm not that bothered about ultimate accuracy - but am about repeatability. So this looks useful and it's under 30 quid.

Well I went and looked for reviews but it seems the snobs on electrician sites all say it's not as good as their 2,000 dollar ones. Duh but others say it will work it's just not going to be certifiable results.

This place has them a little cheaper and I have bought from them before a couple times. Fairly quick shipping and I got what I ordered.

Insanity meter is what it should be called. LOL Good luck!

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

RE: Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
Now I'm confused. I'm not at all sure that the listing text refers to the same device as the identical model Brad linked to. The text would seem to be describing two entirely different devices. Odd!

I think they have taken the spec for the twice the price model which does do milliohms.

Sixty quid is a different matter. The pics don't show a 4 wire lead in the cheaper one which is necessary to get results that have any actual meaning at these resistance levels.

RE: Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
This might do the trick but would be a bit clunky and isn't 4 wire.

I sense a PM on BLF to HKJ happening.

Oh I see the one on e-bay is a megohmmeter. A million ohm meter.

That's very close to what I'm using. Mine is an Amp Probe ACD-12.

RE: Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
I have just bought one from ebay. £56 and a bit. Plus £6 for quicker shiping. So hopefully it will arrive in a couple of weeks. Then the measuring begins.

RE: Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
What exactly does it do that a regular meter doesn't then Don ? Does it simply have an extra digit for measuring 1000'ths of an ohm instead of 100'ths ?

RE: Found an affordable milliohmmeter.
The cheap atty testers do give two digits but IMO the second digit is utterly meaningless. Given that the difference between 0.19 and 0.11 is in the bad things happening to the cell territory for an 18650, I thought better safe than sorry.
