Folomov A4 charger
I dug out some lightly used Samsung 25R 18650s. They are all stored at 3.6V. I keep the cells that aren't in a device or likely to be needed at this voltage as they last longer that way.

I put two in the Folomov and set two of the slots to 3A charging. In both slots it immediately kicked back to 2A charging. Presumably on impedance grounds. A new good quality IMR 18650 will have 20-30 milliohms of impedance, this figure can only go up.

I also stuck two in the Miboxer C2-6000 at the same time. I didn't force a charge rate on it, one of them was charging at 2.3A last I looked (44 milliohm impedance) and the other at 2.1A (48 milliohm impedance). Now to sit back and wait to see which finishes first. The Miboxer is the only charger that actually gives a meaningful measure of this. It is neither easy or cheap to get a device that can do this reliably, look up what Motorola Cadex battery analysers cost. I prefer to spend less than that on a car....

Cells on charge at 20:25 Zulu time. Which happens to be the same time as here since 2am on Sunday Smile

Unboxing. With bonus Assistant head. He firmly believes that all rustling plastic means he is about to get food.

Trying some button top D NiCd cells. Most lithium cells will have larger + contacts so ought to work in it - these crappy cells have the positive contact too small and too high to work properly. The only 32600 lithium cells I have aren't about to get charged ever again. Soon as I find them, they are being discharged and recycled.

Trying the cells I had lying around.

RE: Folomov A4 charger
Forty minutes later all four cells are still cool to the touch and are close to fully charged. The Cells in the Folomov are less cool than the ones in the Miboxer but both appear to be under 30C so nothing there to worry about. I have a temperature probe for the meter somewhere.

RE: Folomov A4 charger
The Miboxer finished first. By five minutes or so. It had put 1400mAh into the cells. But what really matters is what we get out of them. So discharged they will be. Results in the morning.

RE: Folomov A4 charger
The results were: 2400mAh ish from all four cells so that's a wash. The Folomov charges as fully as any of my chargers do. The voltage by multimeter was within 20mV (i.e. next to nothing) of the reading on the charger at all voltages.

No complaints. I like that the defaults if you don't touch any buttons are conservative - if you don't touch the buttons it'll charge at a gentle 500mA though you can set it lower for smaller cells. For most 14500/16340/18350 cells 250mA is more appropriate.

My only dislike is that it is a bit slow to respond to button presses when you change the charge current. It is easy to overshoot the value you wanted.

Or maybe I'm just impatient. I'll need to try it with some of my large collection of NiMH cells (The only disposable batteries here are in the clock in the bathroom and my meters), everything else that uses AA/AAA is run on NiMH. Even the heating controller though it moans about low voltage from when I put them in but then runs happily for about 7 months before the cells need charging again.

RE: Folomov A4 charger
Don, glad to know you try one more Folomov charger. Thank you for sharing.
