First Clapton build
I finally got some small gauge wire so i can play with Clapton coils. The build came out ok for a very first try. Winding the coils withou losing the overwrap took a few tries, and in the end i had to takeone wrap off of one coil to balance the pair, but the sub-box 75 seems quite happy with them. The end result came out as .19 ohms and i can fire in TC mode very reliably which I am happy about.

RE: First Clapton build
Losing the over wrap? Like it sliding off the core you mean? My trick is to put a tight bend either end of the clapton wire then make two coils starting either end of it. Keeps the wrap nice and tight.

Nice job btw Ok

Yeah, the overwrap is easy to slide off of the core, spacing the outer wraps further apart.  I might have to look in to making a small spot welder, which would be handy for welding on end leads anyway.

???????

Spot weld?

Might be easier to just watch a few more youtube videos on Clapton coil building. Smile

When I started I had watched a video where the Clapton starts by being wrapped over itself in the beginning and end of the strand.....and kept tight throughout.....

A different builder actually torches it slightly once the strand is done, then again once wrapped..... I think it was to get it to not be springy..... Smile

As for the build, awesome job!

RE: First Clapton build
Avatar, congrats on your Clapton build. I'm still playing with single coils. I did break down and buy some SS Claptons from FT.

RE: First Clapton build
nice job for a first go , my first claptons weren't that good .
once you get the feel they will almost build themselves . you will feel your wrap pushing your hand , let it . Smile
