Rainbow FT Ithaka clone first impressions
Now that I've got the bloody thing to work.

It is a monumental pain in the arse to build. Put it together, check resistance. 1 ohm. Fine.

Screw on collector tank. Resistance 0.0 ohms.

Eventually found the offending 0.5mm of protruding wire. If I'd tried to cut it off I'd undoubtedly have had to replace the wire as it'd have fallen out from under the O ring that holds the + wires in contact with the centre pin of the 510 connector. Solved the problem by raking through the big box of O rings till I found a suitable one and shoved it over the centre pin to cover up the offending 0.5mm of wire.

3mm silica won't work in it, you need 2.5 or if you are as cack-handed as me 2mm

Is it worth the hassle?

Yes. It's the first device I've had that needed the airflow turning down from maximum - Even Gords would find it airy enough I think. And with the airflow turned down the flavour just explodes out of it. Marvellous!

Do I ever want to rebuild it again? Nope!

Sweet. I need to have one......my iatty has been doing stellar BUT do not, under any circumstances,  what so ever, open the bugger unless your sure its dry. There's no way to prevent it flooding if you do.

And let it sit, otherwise its dry hit city.

I'm definitely going to order an ismoka magoo come payday though,  the iatty tastes great when its not dry hitting.  And I have 2 2.5 and 3mm silica that wont get used elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing Don.

I really am not wild about the wire retaining method, but it does vape very well and hasn't (yet) leaked in my pockets. There was a tiny amount of juice in the 510 connector and it will flood and gurgle if you overfill it. Or if you carry it upside-down in your pockets. The gurgling goes away though.

Thanks for posting. I almost bought one of these but I get tired of fiddly devices so I gave it a pass. Hard to pass up though at the price they are.

RE: FT Ithaka clone first impressions
If you have more manual dexterity than I do, and more patience it's a better buy. It is a most excellent vape, but it took me about 6 tries to build it and a solid two hours to get it to work last night.

There's loads to tinker with though once you get it working, the flavour is excellent and it can give you a lung burning hot vape if that's what you want (I don't) but you can fiddle with that too - you can probably make it fit just about everyone's preference.

The cost of that is complexity. There ought to be a way to design such a device so that shorting is impossible - on this it is way, way too easy to short it out. Hopefully it won't need rebuilding any time soon. If it does it is likely to go back into its rather nice box as I've an unused Kraken to play with as well. And a tiny dripper which will just about fit in a 5ml syringe.

Well, I definitely want to try one of these.  How is it working with the special NR-R-NR wires?  Do you make your own or buy premade coils?

It cost £2.50 for fifty res no res wires, I can't see buying a wire welder at that price
