Dishonesty in shops.
Hello everyone

I'm new, both to the forum and to vaping and I had a question though I'm not sure if this is the right place.

A buddy previously gave me and old MOD and tank he didn't want anymore and I've been using it for a while but recently I've wanted something with more control and more wattage. So today went to the local shop and the guy talked me into a Smok micro one R150. He was talking how he was giving me a great deal at 84 bucks yadda yadda. But (and this is as much my fault for not looking it up) I've found that retail is only slightly higher than what he quoted AND they can be found for around 50% less online.

I guess I'm just wondering if this is the norm? Has it happened to others? or if I'm just being stupid.

Personally I can't afford the prices in B&M shops. The increased prices is for the overhead and personal factor. They are a great place to hang out and talk vape. Not all shops are so overpriced but yes, they are more expensive than online. My first trip to a shop taught me that lesson. One coil for $10. However, they often offer deals that can't be had online. It's always best to do your research before any purchase.

Welcome to TVF Aepelis. As noted above, this is retail - yes you can buy just about anything online vs in the B+M however the extra cost is in part for the convenience to have it now vs 4-6 weeks on the slow ship from China....

Bibs also makes a really good point, doesn't hurt to keep the open line of communication and occasional visit to the local shop - even if only to pick up a coil or two or juice....unless your city/town has multiple options for vape shops, doesn't hurt to go in from time to time and see what is on sale...

I buy online as well as retail - recently a few clearance mods that are basically at cost and same price I would have paid from China without the wait...as for the not so great deal, lesson learned and I'm sure if you are back in there and he starts his sales tactics you can always say something....

Thanks for the replies. I should say that I dont feel cheated or directly lied to just that it seemed a bit underhanded like a pushy used car salesman. But you guys have valid points and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.

I buy retail when I can and wait for sales and stuff. There is somewhat of a problem for the shops(not only vape shops). We had a GREAT music store (CDs Vinyl) with a huge selection. If they did not have something you wanted they would get it in 5 days tops. Talked with the owner right before they closed for good and asked him why. One word answer "Amazon".

RE: Dishonesty in shops.
I generally buy from retailers in town. First off I have developed a relationship wiuth the shops I go to. Secondly, I never pay their listed price. However, bear in mind that I buy relatively high end product usually. So online I'm not saving that much. Also I'm extremely hard on my mods. I admit it. My series Satan was giving me issues. Two of us tried taking it apart and reassembling. Finally I brought it to a B=M where I knew the guy. He is a mod guru. He fixed it up like new in ten minutes for 5 dollars. He then sold me juice for ten dollars off. Every issue with mods I've bought retail has been sorted by owners. I've never had to deal with returns to China. Every mod is warrantied. This is important to me as my average set up is around 225 - 300 dollars. The B+Ms I go to also sell high end used gear. I can pick up a very good atty - authentic - for half the original retail price or the same for a high end mod. Just got a beauty of a Reo and a custom Nuppin. I'm looking to swing a deal on yet another squonk and another series mod - the resin silver wolf - smaller than a Noisy Cricket or Satan.

Toronto has a lot of vape shops. A lot! There are at least four or five that are really reputable and really good. I'm not buying a stab wood custom mod online. One shop just outside of Toronto has about twenty stab woods in stock. I can see them before I buy them. I can handle them. I can check the machining. I also test RTAs out before buying them ... hence my RTA thread. To each his own. But I would not say that B=Ms are any more dishonest than a number of online dealers. There are good and bad everywhere.

RE: Dishonesty in shops.
You'll probably end up doing what most of us have done. Buy from a shop early on, until you are more familiar with vaping, at which time you learn that most brick and mortars charge a lot more than online (some out of spite, most out of overhead necessity), so you'll end up buying most of your gear online. Like in any retail situation, avoid the sleazy salesmen that use high pressure or overbearing in-your-faceness. Some shops are quite good, while others are quite not good.

RE: Dishonesty in shops.
Paying $5.00 for a coil led me to search online for cheaper alternatives which I soon discovered were quite substantial. I think I pay around $2.40 per coil now which is a fair savings IMHO.
