I don't know about anybody else but I use Mate as a greeting! for someone I regard as a friend.. So all you on here are my MATES or good friends simples Wacko Good

Here in the states people look at you weird when you use "mate" because here it's strictly used in its literal sense: a person you are committed to and have sex with. Big Grin

Where you Brits use mate, we use bro.

It's funny, when I'm speaking out loud I call people "amigo" because I used to work in a restaurant with a bunch of Hispanic guys and we spoke Spanish all the time. But in writing I call people "mate." And with other people my age (like when I visited my old college) I say "bro" or "dude" instead. Lol I never realized this before.

Oh God, anything but "bro" lol.  I use Dude .  I got called "my homeboy" , that doesn't work for me , i won't put up with "homey" either .
