Critters
Hello Everyone,

Just curious if anyone else is into keeping any "not so average" animals? I have kept many different types of reptiles in the past, but as of lately we have been focusing on breeding Bearded Dragons and Veiled Chameleons. We are expecting our first clutch of dragons in the next two months, and I cant wait to see what kind of color combos we will end up with.

So does anyone else keep any different or odd animals?

RE: Critters
My kids play an app that lets you hatch dragons. I couldn't imagine doing it in real life.

My dogs are definitely 'not so average' but that's because they're stupid, not exotic. Parakeets and tropical fish are as exotic as I get.

I've never had a pet besides a few fish, but I'd love to have a pet snake. I don't even know why, they're just really cool.

TinWhisker what kind of fish do you keep? Any pictures?

Snakes are a very cool animal to keep. I have had quite a few over the years, they are super easy to care for and for the most part pretty cheap as well. I've kept ball pythons and green tree pythons, ball pythons are really chill and easy to handle the green trees...not so much lol. I had to get rid of the snakes though when my girl moved in, she wasn't having any snakes in the house.

RE: Critters
I've lived in a place with enough venomous snakes not to fancy keeping snakes. I was quite good at dealing with them with home made napalm.

I am now blind in my right knee thanks to a spitting cobra who was going for my eyes while I was cutting its head off with a panga.

I did like the geckos - but the cats liked them as a snack.

And mongooses feeding on rotten avocados are hilarious. Mongooses make psychotic ferrets seem friendly. When they are wasted on rotting avocados, they get really bad-natured. Don't fancy those as pets.

Very cool pets!  Nothing different right now. Dogs, cats and rabbits. I had a big old snapping turtle for a while that got hit on the road and cracked it's shell. I nursed him back to health and then off he went. I saw him for years after that, we called him old mossy back. He got so he would follow boats around and take any fish they threw back. I also had a tarantula for a few years. His name was Ralph, he was pretty cool. I used to sit him on my shoulder when I played cards. When I was really young we had a pet squirrel, my sister was terrified of him and to this day is scarred of them.

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

I probably have a few pics. Just freshwater, a 55 gal setup, nothing special. I do want to expand to a bigger tank and maybe take the salt plunge someday.

I can see not wanting to keep snakes/reptiles after having been bit. Everything I have kept has been non-venomous, I don't like knowing I am not at the top of the food chain if the snake has had a pissy day. Sorry to hear about your knee.

Turtles are really neat, and that really cool you nursed him back. Most folks would have just made turtle soup lol. I have always wanted to get sulcata tortoise but currently don't have a property to keep one. Do Tarantulas get to know there owner, or are they pretty indifferent?

Saltwater is a blast, I really enjoyed working on my salt tanks. Once my girl and I buy our new home that is the first thing I will be setting up again. Coral is really fun to propagate, plus you can frag it and sell it helps pay for the hobby.

We actually have leads and collars for our bearded dragons and walk them around the yard quite often Laugh1

RE: Critters
Those lizards are pretty cool, I wouldn't mind one but I'd be worried about getting bitten.. do you handle them from a young age to tame them ?
