It build up at the top of the coil like that for reasons mentioned above, but if it still tastes and acts OK you can still use it. Some folks vodka wash them and reuse 'em even. I never tried, and since I build now I just re-wick rather than try to conserve.
I just drink the vodka and then the cotton seems fine.

RE: Cotton is black
You may like some of the whiskey juices. Personally I can't stand anything harder than beer (I blame that on many youthful hangovers), so I really loathe liquor flavored juices. But that is far off topic. Anyway, by the time I learned that there are somewhat effective ways of refreshing pre-made coils, I was already moved on to DIY RDA builds so I never actually tried to clean any.

I don't like any of the liquor flavours they taste really synthetic - so I just have the real thing - in a glass[Image: smile.gif].

RE: Cotton is black
I've gotten pretty fast with re-wicking. I like a lot of sweet and or dark juices so I change wicks at least once a day. So, I've gotten pretty good at it Smile

It can still be a pain but man I love the flavor and clouds off a new wick Smile

Keep Calm and Vape On!

I prime the coils for 20minutes, slowly increase from 30w to 42w. Two days later the cotton is black and coil looks to be gunked up.

I changed to a Ni200 for the crown and running a clear juice called April showers which is skittles n sweet tarts flavor, I'll see how long this one will last.

From these pics I think the cotton is much more affected than the coil itself. Which from my knowdledge could hint there is an ingredient involved that has a very low burning point, or the coil head is not getting enough air. Well that does not help you much but a change of e-liquid may help. A change of coil material does not affect gunking up.

Anyways, I check my coil and wicking every day. I sure would not vape that anymore. I change usually after 3 day and then it is only slightly discoloured to a little brownish surface tinting. To my thinking brownish is the colour that is ok but black is not good as it could mean burned carbohydrates. We all don't know if and how harmful the gunk is but I suspect it can't be too good.

Could it be the kanger nano mod or the uwell crown?

So glad I ordered that rba coil head. Problem I think is how long it takes properly wicking the crowns rba.
Following these directions.

Well I got it wicked like so. The rba is wicking good. Vapes well. So far no leaks.

PAIN IN THE ASS lol.

Took twice to get it. For first time wicking it took me 12-15min.
