RE: Coil gunk?
So, how about the cotton burning out? Is that normal? Usually I don't see that all the time unless I go higher powered and play the thin line of dry hitting. Is the cotton supposed to disintegrate like that?

*Sorry hitti, not trying to take over the thread.

RE: Coil gunk?
My cotton gets dark and yucky in a week or so, but it doesn't disintegrate?!!?!  My 3-strand twisted 28 awg coils get vaped between 64-68 watts at .25 ohms for the pair (3.95 volts) and my 24/30 awg Claptons get vaped at 85-90 watts (4.20 volts at .21-.22 ohms for the pair).  All my juice is 80/20 VG/PG, 3 nic.

Right that's why I ask... When I pull the cotton out, I find that it is gone from the coil. It comes off in two pieces on either side of the coil. Just disappears, almost like magic. Dark, creepy magic.

RE: Coil gunk?
Wet, old, used up cotton breaks easily, mine come apart sometimes - but only with a firm tug.  If you're running "on the edge of a dry hit" you may very well be burning the center cotton up a tiny bit at a time.  Are you making and wicking the coils the way I recommended?

I am building them low on the deck. Wicking is just touching the well. This is not a new deal for me either. Been happening for a long time, and I assumed it was common.

Same here. Middle center of coil the cotton discinagrates how ever its spelled.

RE: Coil gunk?
Shorter coils, MORE power, shorter draws.  That's my prognosis.  Long draws are the middle of the wick's worst enemy.  This is why I always suggest 4-5 wraps.  If you need more resistance, go to a thinner wire.  Shorter coils reduce vapor production a bit, but make for a longer coil and wick life and reduced possibility of dry hits.
