Clapton Coil Ideas
I'm a few weeks away from the delivery of my Clapton jig, so I want to gather the appropriate wire beforehand.

What's (in your opinions) the best wire combo for SS316 that will give me a good vape at ~40w? SS, because this will actually be a TC build at the power equivalent of 40w, but since most of you don't do the TC dance, I will have more suggestions this way.

Assume I have no SS at all, since I'm going to buy a couple more spools anyway. Also assume I intend to start with 26g twisted (2 strands) for the inner core, since I think 28g will be too small, and 24g will be too hard to get at a good resistance for TC. If you think that's a bad core choice, feel free to say so.

Thanks, peepees!

RE: Clapton Coil Ideas
What resistance are you shooting for? Right now I have 316L fused claptons in my RTA. 26g core wrapped in 36g. 6 wraps on 2.5mm id. Dual coils comes out at .1149 ohms. Twisted core will be the same as fused core. They are working great on my R150 and I'll keep running these in tc mode. Darn you TW! You started me down the tc road!

Yeah 26ga is a bit thick to get a good resistance for TC. I just made a pair of fused claptons with a 28ga core and it worked out just fine, no trouble at all from the cores. So if I were you I'd use 28ga for the core, and 34ga for the wrap. That would be thin enough to allow you to get a decent resistance for TC, anyway.,

RE: Clapton Coil Ideas
Well, I'm targeting .25-.30 on the resistance. I also want to make them 3.5 to 4.0MM ID. I have a new coil jig coming that allows me to build over the 3.0MM ID max I had with the Kuro's. I haven't done any steam engine work yet, if you intended to post that link. I know it.

Don, TC is cool. Again, my main thing is all about consistency. The draw is the same, no matter how lon I fire, and it never burns. I don't know, I just really like that.

36g, 38g and 40g is really easy to use on the daedalus and makes a perfect clapton. The smallest I've used so far is 30g core wrapped in 36g. The biggest I've done is 24g wrapped in 28g.

Well if you can use them easily on the jig then I'd use 36ga instead of 34 in my recommendation.

With a 26ga core I think you'd be around 10 wraps to get 0.25 ohms, somewhere around there anyway. But I forgot, you have a gigantic build deck to work with so that may work.

Does it work with multiple cores? Well, I should say can I wrap 3× 24g cores with 40g more specifically..

With such low wattage the core needs to be thin as poss tw, otherwise the ramp up will be an eternity Confused though I guess you can set preheat on your mod?

Wide diamiter coils can be a crap vape at low watts so there's that. A 12mm long and 4mm wide fused clapton will need more power to really come alive imo.
If your going single core try out a 24g 40g of about 8 wraps. For a dual core try 28g 40g 10 3mm wraps.

I'm suggesting 40g because it gives the best flavour, 38g would be fine too Smile

Yes you can easily. I haven't done 3 core with 24g. I have done 3 core with 26g and 28g.
