With this being a true statement, then it seems that the switch must be bad or you would not be able to complete the circuit. I don't have one so I can't test it and figure it out but maybe the switch is poorly insulated and screwed into the metal body? If that is the case insulating the switch would solve the problem. To test that theory, you could take the switch off but leave it wired just not touching the body and see if you get the same results.

Somethings got to be shorting out somewhere for it to fire, because unless the switch is in the closed position there should be no way for it to complete the circuit.

PS: A Maglites body is a negative contact also

Edit: I would check the circuit that goes from the cells to the switch for any bare contacts that may be touching the case

Sorry to respectfully disagree with you Pulsar. I locked the switch on my Cherry Bomber making sure that when I pushed the button, nothing happened. Then touched the RDA and the box with a screw driver and it fires. I personally think this is a non issue. I narrowed my choices of RDA's to round ones that sit on the plastic collar. The Cherry Bomber was not designed for square RDA's like the "Hell Boy". I am not concerned. It's my favorite mech mod.

The fire button has absolutely nothing to do with the auto firing. Locked or unlocked, the circuit can be completed by other means.

Well, I still stand by my statement that there is something else going on besides the fact that the body is grounded. By design, a mechanical mod has one side of the cell grounded to the body, and the other side to a switch in the normally open state. Unless the circuit is closed by pressing the button, there is no way the atty should see both positive and negative

The atty is not positive and negative. The atty is sitting on a positive connection. The box is negative. I made sure the button was locked. Then took a metal screw driver to the box (negative) and touched the atty (positive) circuit complete. I agree there is a design flaw. I am just not concerned about it. Lets move on to something else. Good2

Only other thing I can think is the positive from the cells is going straight to the center post, and the outer connection of the 510 goes to the switch and the switch goes to ground. If so, that is way more work than needed and not very safe.

Not trying to prove anyone wrong here or anything, just trying to locate the problem and maybe come up with an easy and safe fix

No worries my friend. I know very little about electricity. Here is a video I made. See what you think. Hope I did this right.

Ok that didn't work. Let me try something else.

Any atomiser with a non-conductive coating should make it very hard to fire without using the switch.
