RE: Chat hub
Thanks guys. It's been rough but we're pulling through. I'm so glad I got married before all this happened, it would have been so much harder if we didn't have each other to lean on.

But really, it means a lot knowing that you guys care and are here for me. Thanks again.

Heading off to the tattoo shop, talk to you in a few hours!

Hard to take a good shot of it since it's on my shoulder, it looks a bit blurry in this pic but it's nice and crisp in real life. I designed the cross as a line drawing, based on a necklace that my aunt gave me after my grandmother's funeral, and then the tattoo artist helped me make it look awesome by adding the shading, cracks, etc.

The most painful part of the process?

When the artist told me that Jake, my friend who died of a heroine OD back in March, was a client there and had recently gotten a new tattoo and told them he was clean.

So this is for Jake, Grandma, DeeDee, and Sam. It's been a rough couple of months, but I know I'll see them again someday.

RE: Chat hub
I hadn't thought of it before, but there's a beautiful kind of symmetry in the fact that it's a cross. Four points, as a memorial for four friends who've gone on. I know we've got people from all faiths here on the forum so I don't want to sound preachy or anything, but I just noticed there's a kind of innate symbolism there that I didn't even intend. Funny how things can work out that way.

I've never had the nerve to get inked. My Dad had a shark which I always thought was really cool though.

So Michael, when's the gun show start?! Whoo! Sun's out guns out!

RE: Chat hub
Thanks guys, I'm pretty proud of it Smile Bob, that one looks awesome!

TW, get the nerve! It doesn't hurt nearly as bad as people lead you to think. I was worried before I went since it was my first tattoo, I was bracing myself for really bad pain and nausea just in case. But once I actually did it, it wasn't bad at all. It's kind of scratchy and a little painful, but it's really not bad, plus after a few minutes your body kicks up the endorphins and it starts to kind of feel good. There's really no way to describe how it feels besides "it feels like getting a tattoo." There's nothing else like it to compare. But yeah, if you actually want a tattoo then I'd say do it, it's totally worth it. I'm sure I'll get another in the future Tongue

Speaking as a professional Christian - good on you Michael for thinking it through.

And you may yet convince me to get a tat or two.

My take on it has always been - permanent self-mutilation.

So thanks for another viewpoint Michael..

RE: Chat hub
Well Don, you're right there is that aspect to it as well. When I was in high school and college I struggled with some deep depression and I did self-mutilate, I've still got the scars to prove it, and I'd be lying if I said that thought hadn't crossed my mind when thinking about tattoos. But the way I see it now, it's a permanent work of art that means something to me. I don't understand the kind of folks who get tattoos just for the sake of having a tattoo without any attached meaning, but to each his own. For me, it's a way to commemorate something important that has happened in my life, and I would never get a tattoo that didn't mean something profound to me. I've considered getting a tattoo to cover up the scars from when I used to cut myself, and I may yet, but for me it would be a constant reminder that there's light at the end of even the darkest tunnels.

Geez, I really am starting to sound preachy.
