Awesome.. I know there's probably times when you want it all done, but there must be a lot of fun and fulfillment in making it all happen.

It's been in the family since around 1967. Can't remember the exact date but we had our first holiday there when I was 7 or 8. Since my Dad died last year guess who gets to do the maintenance? My brother lives in Portsmouth so I go up most weekends I'm free and cut the grass, cut down trees, chop firewood and generally look after the place. Which suits me just fine. The hounds love it there, though they didn't get to come with me this time as the car was full of furniture to go there.

In the early 70's the landowner of all the land around there planted a few square miles of trees for the forestry subsidies and then did nothing with them for 40 years. The timber is complete trash and basically only useful for paper making. So I have an essentially unlimited supply of pine/spruce wood for the stoves. But it is a pain chopping it small enough to fit in the stoves.

In 1989 I tried commuting from there to work. An hour and a half each way. On a motorbike. In November. I lasted about a week. I got a place in 1990 a mile from where I work.

The current landowner round here is Billy Connolly who you might have heard of. He's rarely to b sen round here - which is typical of Weegies. And I was born a Weegie.

RE: Chat hub
Really nice pics everyone. What a bunch of cool places you all live in. You have to love the variety!!

I have a dozen apple trees, a pear tree a huge Yellow Cherry tree, all kinds of grapes, raspberries etc The back area is all planted with Furs of various kinds. I have a friend who owes me some money and some favors who is supposed to be bringing me in some new fruit and nut trees this year sometime. Mine are all mature now and won't last forever.

Best part is that I paid cash for the place. Under $25,000. Paved driveway, nice garage, small greenhouse off of that. You can't see it from the pics but in the back there is a rabbit/chicken hutch. That I'm actually going to be taking down (it's in rough shape) and building my wife one of those "tiny" houses. It will be all set up and off the grid, so to speak. Solar, hand pump, wood cook/heating stove, one large bay window facing the back woods. Everything a person needs to live with just small. It's going to double as a guest house/studio for her arts and craft work. Eventually I plan to fence the entire area and get some goats and sheep. The rabbit/chicken hutch will be replaced with a modern one closer to the house. I want us to be 100% self sustained by 2016, that is the goal anyway.

Hoping to get the rest cleared up this year, and start getting some fruit trees and plants planted next spring. Want apple, pear, peaches, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. Maybe more at some point. Best part, I can make some booze out of what the family dont eat Drinks
Don't worry Pulsar we all have a few crazy people like you in the family. LOL

Sounds like a great plan. You can NEVER plant trees soon enough. Time flies and all that!

If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

RE: Chat hub
I'll do a walk around video one of these days. The lawns are small but the gardens not. Pretty manageable though which is good. Its our first summer in here and the garden is throwing new suprises at us every day. The previous owners were geniuses.

Thanks fir sharing a bit of your lives though guys. Awesome thread. Smile
