Anyone know about 4G devices?
3 is in the process of installing 4G here. I use a 3 MiFi device to get internet access at work - the work feed is so restricted that approximately 90% of Google hits are blocked by the amazingly annoying filter.

The 3G signal is incredibly poor where i work - in a low building surrounded on 3 sides (Between me and the tower) by a 3 storey steel-framed hospital. It's here. Don't know if this link will work. It's the pale grey roofed pair of Portakabins.

So I was wondering if 4G is likely to be any better? Since my contact is up, the upgrade cost will be essentially zero on top of what I'm already paying. I suspect the answer is it'll be worse but as long as it falls back to 3G there's no problem for me. The other places where it gets used extensively are unlikely to be upgraded to 4G in my lifetime.

4g is quite a bit faster. I am not sure about the technical details, but it is very noticeable on my phone

4G should have better building penetration due to it's higher frequency.  GSM based 3G (which I think you use where you are) is notoriously horrible compared to CDMA based 3G for building penetration.  4G should improve on things even more and you should have a stronger signal if the 4G tower was the same one as the 3G.

Thanks Johnny, that's exactly what I was hoping for. Since I'm out of contract I can get a new 4G MiFi for signing up for another couple of years and as long as it has good 3G fallback that will be excellent.
