What tank to use?
My boyfriend just brought a Dotmod Dotbox, he is currently using his old Kangertech tank with it. What other tanks can he use with it? He doesn't want to use the Dotmod petri sub-ohm tank due to the small 1.9mL Juice Reservoir. Also we know nothing about building our own coils so a tank where we can buy the coils would be perfect.

If you buy your coils, the TFV8 is pretty much the go-to these days.  There are lots of good ones out there, but the TFV is ubiquitous to the point of never having to worry about finding coils, and they have a wide range of them from TC coils to lower power coils to 100W monsters.

Would that be the baby beast or the cloud beast? I have a baby beast tank on my smok alien and we tried it on his but its drained the battery when firing.

I actually think the Crown 111 would be perfect for your set up. Comes in many colors and is easy peasy to use. The best Crown since the OG version by far.

My guess is the coils were incompatible.  With the TFV's you gotta pay attention to which coil is iinnstalled, because they offer so many different ones.  For instance, trying to fire a Kanthol coil if the mod is in TC (Temp Control) mode isn't gonna work.  And trying to fire a TC coil on a mod in power mode isn't gonna work well, either, if the mod doesn't like the super low resistance.  Since the tank itself makes no difference re draining batteries, I can say with some certainty that there was a compatibility issue with the coils being and mod being used.

I recommend the Tobeco Super Tank with the "playboy" coil. Replacement coils are plentiful and it tastes very good for a tank. I run mine at around 35 watts on my Alien and it will last 24 hours.
